Volquartsen 10/22 carbon fiber barrel? Newby
I am just starting out and have a ruger10/22 with volq. trigger and heavy factory bbl with a preditor stock. I'm putting a volq carbon fiber barrel on it. Anyone ever used a rig like this for a match? Is it good enough?

Hey, this is "run what 'ya brung" and a lot of us started with 10/22's! Your setup is only "legal" for standard class, but that's no real handicap. As a matter of courtesy you might look into a shell deflector, since hot brass down the shirt is distracting, and standard velocity ammunition that's a little quieter than the sonic stuff and (some believe) less likely to break the animals.

I had one with a Lilja barrel on it and still regret selling it, you can hang a piece of cloth over the top turret on the scope draping it down the right side of the gun. I''ve also seen people put up a cardboard deflector on the left side of their spotting scope and setting it up to the right of the shooter. The only other accessories you might look at is an extended magazine release and last shot bolt hold open.

I went looking for a deflector after writing that post and there weren't any! There are different ways to fashion one, but they're ugly and most of us are vain enough about our rifles to skip 'em.
This might work: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1855 ... _DEFLECTOR
Some posters on RFC have commented brass bouncing off over sized bolt handles but that seems like a "maybe" solution.

Cut the corner side off a gallon milk jug and use some velcro. It will look like a 'L' when finished. About 2" - 3" long and size the length of the legs to fit to the receiver and velcro mounting area and then leave the down leg just long enough to deflect the shells downward.Steelbuster9 wrote:I have the standard velocity ammo but where can I pick up a deflector?
The leather over the side works also, but I'd fashion a piece of the milk jug to hold the leather off the bolt far enough to ensure your shell fully ejects and doesn't deflect bacck into the chamber area and that it doesn't slow down or imped the bolt action.

Thanks for the info guys! Does anyone know what kind of accuracy I should expect out of this barrel? My stock barrel was shooting SK at about an inch and 3/4 at 100 meters. I'm hopen this one is more accurate.

The after market barrel should shoot better and always try diffrent ammo...see what it likes. I have a H/S precision barrel and stock with all the bling stuff and it shoots bug holes. But I dont shoot it since it belongs to my wife and she wont let me use it.

Ive got one on one of my 10/22 and the accuracy is awesome but you may find out that the carbon barrel is too light and you will have a hard time keeping the gun on target. I put a kidd 20inch bull barrel on and it was still to light. the heavier your barrel the more stable your gun, less wobble. Thats what I found out, you may like the light barrel and get used to shooting it.

Kolby won a Clark fluted .920 barrel that was amazingly light and shot really well. His stock trigger really stank but he drove us all nuts by popping off our practice targets - we finally "let" him do reset chores.

Well I got my barrel put on. They said it would be a snug fit but man, didn't expect that snug. Nnnniiicccee. I am more shakey with it but it grows on ya. That's all the fun in it. Man I love this stuff. Thanks to all the guys at ofgc for helping get hooked. Hi I'm Nick and I'm an addict!

Just don't mow down all the targets at once...

Is it ok to use a boresnake on this barrel? I know on volquartsens site it says no brass brushes.

Only if you pick the brush out. Better yet, just use a patch on a pull through line with a good synthetic cleaning oil. I like the Patch Worm, but most folks just melt the the end of a weed eater line for their patch puller.Steelbuster9 wrote:Is it ok to use a boresnake on this barrel? Well I got to shoot it. I am very unsteady, but love the balance and weight. Hopefully I will settle down. Very accurate off bench. Sub moa at 100. May stick with fun match for a bit longer to get used to it. I did pick up an Otis kit though. I tried the weedeater line and ended up getting very frustrated next thing I knew I was at gellco.
