40XR Hunter Barrel Contour Question
Anyone who has built a 40XR hunter gun using a Pharr stock, what contour barrel and length were you able to use and still make weight?
Thank for any input.

Re: 40XR Hunter Barrel Contour Question
A number 5 contour ( preferably fluted ) will make weight for hunter class, as long as you use aluminum rings, and a very light recoil pad. Caution, it will not make weight with a busted Premier scope, barrel lenght 23" to 23 1/2".

Re: 40XR Hunter Barrel Contour Question
You can make hunter weight if you choose the right parts during your build.
I have a Remington 40x in a Pharr RTs maple stock. It has a Lilja #5 fluted barrel tha is 23" long.
The pictures show a T36 Weaver, but it now has a 6.5x20 Leupold EFR and it is under the 8-1/2# limit.

I have another Remington 40x that has Lilja #5 barrel 25" long that is in a Brown Precision stock. It makes weight for hunter and I am sure that it would if it was in a Pharr stock. I have another that is set up for standard rifle. I may pull the stocks and see if the hunter barreled action would make the weight limit with the Pharr stock.

Good luck, Paul

I have a chunk of maple...probably enoughfor two stocks, until I start thinking about the weight. Such pretty wood but so dense and heavy.

Mine makes hunter weight with just about any scope I have including a 18x40. I would think with the #5 fluted barrel , 23" long that it is as muzzle heavy as any of your Winchester 52 reproductions. I will bring it with me to Winnsboro and let you see how it balances compared to your 52.
Bob, There is not enough time and too little money to build all that I have in mind, sure it is the same for you.
