I figured getting into silhouette shooting, after 15 years of NRA HP, I'd not buy so many rifles, every HP season it was one or 2 new ones, looks like this sport is not much different.

1) Yes it will
2) Every 1712, like every other .22, has it's own preference and only testing will see what it likes best. If your lucky it will like the cheaper stuff, but like most rifles they seem to like the higher priced Eley, SK, Lapua, Wolf & RWS higher end lines. I have good luck with SK Jagd Yellow box for an all around ammo and save/use the better ammo for the bigger matches. I also know others who rifle likes RWS Target and use that all the time for every match. The key in your testing is to see what your rifle likes best at 100M, most of the other ammos will shoot good at the chickens and Pigs distances.

I easily make weight with my Pharr stocked 1712, BKL rings and a Weaver T24.

As to the buying so many rifles, smallbore silhouette is like most any other shooting sport. Can I do well with one decent gun? Of course.
Do I chase gear because a)I want to eliminate all the variable, b)find that what I thought would work doesn't work as well as I thought it did, and c) because I get fidgety when everything's OK and I'm not chasing the next project? Of course!

Like a good across the course rifle, you can shoot a 1712 that fits you until the barrel wears out. Great part is, that'll be MUCH longer than any XTC rifles!

Mine shoots Wolf MT and SK Standard plus sub-moa, so until I make AAA and the economy picks up, I'm not gonna bother working up what ammo can take me from 1.25" groups to 0.75" groups at 100m.

The Pharr stock is lighter than either one of the factory stocks. My 1712 likes just about any ammo that is not cheep. I shoot Eley white box for monthly matches and the orange box EPS downgrade for bigger matches. The white box usually shoots around 1 1/4 inches out at the ram. Too bad I can't.

My Pharr stocks came in at 23oz with trigger guard, action screws, and bedded to the actions. You can put a pretty heavy rifle in one of these and still make weight. Watch the length on them, tho... if the LOP is too long, the heel can extend beyond 7" below the centerline of the bore, making them illegal for Standard Rifle, but still OK for Hunter... strange rule #147.
