You are welcome every one. Another good point to bring out if you are thinking when you are shooting you are doing it wrong. You need to train/practice enough so that your subconscious mind is the one that does the shooting. Your conscious mind is your number two team and there is enough of a delay when you are thinking and ordering your finger to pull the trigger when the sight picture looks good that you are more than likely miss because by the time you pull the trigger you will be moving away from the target.silhouette13 wrote:i have read lannys book 3x my self fist when Jud loaned it to me prompting my own purchase, worth every penny
every one knows HOW to shoot and HOW to hit an animal thinking about it too much is what wrecks it. in theory if you can hit one there is no reason to shoot less than 40
for me too much quiet time prior to a match lets me THINK too much, i have an easier time shooting well when in competition in balance with a sprinkle of banter to distract the negitive vibes
Jud, i for some god forsaken reason have monday off , a day with out work is like a day with out sunshine, want to shoot, or is the man(Job) keeping you down?
this may sound wishy lefty washie new agey but the secret is also a good read for letting good results happen by eliminating negitive reinforcements

Now if you do your shooting with your subconscious mind or your number one team the shooting will be automatic no thinking involved. When you are well trained you will approach the target and when the sight picture looks good your subconscious mind will make your finger pull the trigger at just the right moment.
Say to your subconscious I trust in my ability to hit the targets in the middle or something like that then busy your conscious mind by either doing something like counting numbers backwards or saying something positive over and over again but not ordering or taking over the act of shooting. I know some very smart people that can't shoot matches worth a darn because they are always thinking when shooting.
The advice here is to shoot stupid and not to think when you shoot. Build up your subconscious mind by training, practicing , dry firing, mental imagery whatever you want to do but do it with your subconscious mind and on match day same thing let your subconscious mind take over.
If you have too much time on your hands, read a book, listen to music, talk to others but hopefully not about shooting and not to the negative type that all they want to talk about is the targets they missed or how bad they are shooting, etc.

The two books that I found most useful have nothing to do with shooting. 'Be Like Water' and 'Can I have Your Attention' by Joseph Cardillo have helped me increase my focus not only in shooting but in all aspects of my life.
These two books explore the auto reflex response of the brain related to repetitive behavior patterns. As stated by previous post the

As a newbie, and a confirmed list maker. I write everything down, sometimes twice. I make lists of what i need to do the day before, what I need to pack, and people I want to see. I make note of everything that happens on game day, so that I am not suprised at anything. one thing I had not thought of was writing down any problems and putting them into my pocket for later. Thanks guys. #57
