Short time lurker turns into first time poster

Post by Nahiossi »

Hi Everyone from Canberra Australia :)

Just wanted to wave to everyone and say thanks for providing a great resource for someone that is new to everything shooting related.

My Story - Or how I got addicted to loud noises and the smell of Gunpowder

I grew up in the city and had never fired a gun or owned one. Late last year I was driving past my local range and I thought I would just walk in to see what sorts of things happened there. It turns out that they were shooting Combined Services (military rifles). The range officer had a .22 set up and as it was quiet, let me shoot at some tin cans (whilst they were blasting away at their targets). Needless to say I was hooked :D

The next weekend I went back to have another look and this time they were doing Metallic Silhouette. This I found even more fun then shooting a can (maybe something about instant shot gratification) even though shooting offhand was a lot more tricky then bench rest. Those pesky chickens seem to have some sort of shot avoidance technology or something cause they were all still standing afterwards.

One thing led to another and I decided to join my local shooting club as a Xmas present for myself. With that out of the way, it was time to start getting some gear. As a first off shooter, that was where SC was a godsend. Even though I did not understand half of what you guys talked about, I still learnt a ton of good stuff.

I am halfway through the cooling off period for my firearms license and as soon as that clears, I can put my paperwork in for my first rifle.

I have put a deposit down on a Anschutz 64SBR with a Simmons 6-18x50 scope. I wanted a Leopould 6-20x40 EFR but the budget became a bit stretched after all the other bits I needed (gun case, rifle safe, spotting scope etc - did I mention I love gadget sports!).

Now I just have to wait patiently until the end of March before I can get some lead downrange :(

Cya

Julian,
Welcome to the addiction...sounds like you are starting off with a good set up and will enjoy it. As for not understanding, what a langauge barrier, a lot of us have a bit of a time sorting out the Strine posted by our brothers down under, but it quite amusing to those of us that have some grasp of the King's English you use!
