HOW FAR DO I LEAD THE RAMS?

Just wondering how off the rams I would need to hold in the current weather conditions?

Current weather for North Bend, WA. 30 miles east of Seattle.

Time 7:30pm

Temp 20 F

Winds constant 20mph with gusts over 55mph in the last hour.

Do I need to use the special Eley that they us in the Winter Olympics?

Good news is we still have our power.

Bremerton is no better. Our brass monkey quit last week, He said he was going to look for the witches bosom and wouldn't be back until spring. I think it's time to switch all of the target to black for a few matches.

Highest gust here has been 46mph so far. Temps seem almost balmy up in the 20s after the past couple of days. It was 5 degrees when I got up this morning. It's already getting nasty, though. We have all the necessary supplies to be fine for a while, assuming nothing more catastrophic than power loss from the ice/wind.

What is the problem? For Nomad's fun rifle match on Saturday, the conditions were flat and temps in the 60's... One of our FEW matches with light wind conditions. It did get a little cooler today.

Here's what we had this morning. That's out in the flats, little over a foot down to the bottom layer of hardened ice and snow. The drifts caused by the wind last night are deeper. That hard bottom layer is a couple inches deep, so it's around 14" or so from the top of the snow to the ground. I actually got a call this morning asking if we were going to have the match at the Machias range two miles away even with the snow and nasty wind.

Silhouette shooters are a hearty bunch... but even at that you have to draw the line and below freezing and snow is it for me.

UPDATE

NORTH BEND, WA

TIME: 4PM

TEMP: 28 F

WINDS: 16MPH GUSTS TO 30MPH

SNOWING LIGHTLY

Lost the power last night at 10:45pm. Hooked the generator up in the morning and got full power back at 1 pm this afternoon. Only got about 4 more inches of snow last night. Drifts everywhere in the 3 foot range. 1 frozen pipe that were are still trying to thaw.

P.S. Got the cable back and were able to see the SeaHawks win over the Jets.

Jason, you're going to need a bigger ruler...

All this serves to remind me why we tolerate the heat and humidity in the summer down here....It's cold right now (20 degrees up from an overnight low of 18 or so) but that's rare....We had a little freezing rain/drizzle/fog last week, but it's but a memory now...Will have a little more frozen precip before spring, but nothing to compare with what you guys have going on....That ever hits down here and most of the mobile homes will cave in, power will go out for no telling how long and everything will come to a complete halt, as it should when the Apocalypse is upon us.......

Yep.. never seen this much snow on the ground. It just doesn't happen in Alabama, and evidently hasn't happened up here in western WA for a really long time. I hope I don't end up needing a bigger ruler. That one's a yardstick!

By the way, where the hell's all this global warming when we need it? Maybe it needs a bailout to get going, too. I think I need to go start all the cars and motorcycles up and let them run just to help it along.

I guess weather patterns run in cycles......When I was a kid you could usually depend on at least one "good" snow each winter, a "good" snow being one that canceled school and was enough to make a good snowman without leaving bare spots in the yard and a lot of dead grass sticking all over your snowman (my definition)....We hardly ever got the sleet and freezing rain...Now it seems that the "good" snow is about once every 10 years and the norm is freezing rain and sleet...
