I got sharked. I was played. It was dirty pool.

I had the boys at the rimfire match and I was letting the 9 year old shoot off the bench.
It's a $10 scope so there was LOTS of kentucky elevation involved, but once we dialed in a hold-over, he could nail them pretty good.

About half-way thru the match, we get to the 50yd targets which the scope is set for and he's taking 3/5 and 2/5... I'm pretty unhappy with his performance and haste. I lecture him a bit and tell him how I expect better from these targets and that he needs to focus and take his time. I then offer him $5 for cleaning the next 5 targets. He settles in and goes to work while I help the older boy. I look back to see him taking the 5th target down. I'm like, cool but crap... I check his magazine to see if maybe he lost a target to ricochet and sure enough, there's a round in the magazine. I say, "Hey, you have shots left." He says, "Yea, two." I figure cool, he's being honest. I say, "Well then, pick off the two you missed on the first bank." He proceeds to drop them stone dead.

I figure, cool, he's as good a shot as I thought he could be, but if you know this little turd, you know you always have to be suspicious. He turns and says, "You owe me $7." I say, "How you figure?" He says, "I loaded 7 rounds just in case." I about shat myself laughing! I handed him a fiver and told him he's lucky I'm an easy mark with a sense of humor.

Thats great.. Sounds like he knows how to snow the old man already, better watch that one!

I know what you mean about the slowing down taking your time lecture. Last month I took my nephew who just turned 12 out to the SB match and let him use my Rem 597 semi-auto w/3x9 cheapie Tasco. Even using my

I think there right numbers he shot a 28 off the bags in what had to be a speed record

I kept telling him 2.5 minutes for 5 shots take your time but nooooo pow pow pow pow pow. Now I know why my borther in law got him a single shot .243/20 gauge for starters!

Then the kid comes back here to the house and wants to shoot all my pistols... as fast as I can load the mags!!! I think he went through 1000 rounds of bulk .22 in a little under 2 hours. He loves to shoot and he likes the semi autos so I just let him blast away. Next time I told him he has to shoot like everyone else if he wants to go with me.

I think that's more ass than that kid can actually lift but he did sucker you real good. I started Geoff shootin of a rest this year and he's doing al right. I just didn't bring money into the picture....sucker!

I also don't let him adjust my scopes any more.

I think I told this story before, Geoff adjusted my scope last year for the antelope hunt. This year I didn't let that happen.

In Mordecia's case the kid is just smarter than the old man. Must get it from his mom.

Dave, I caught the scope adjustment story....now most young men can be motivated with food. teach him now that if he is going to adjust your scope, he should do so properly such that you can hit the antelope, or there is nothing to eat. Kind of like poaching illegal length fish/lobster, sometimes you gotta eat and if that is what is available then go for it.

Yea, the bait motivation method. It didn't work with my daughters but it does with Geoff. The usual bait is A&W rootbeer and fries. Of course he probably views it has having conditioned the old man into taking him there after every hunt. We get our rootbeer and fries and I get the front page while he checks out the car adds for some old Jeep I should buy him. It's just one dog short of perfection.
