stevens favorite

Post by tc375 »

hi folks,
i just got a stevens m30 and was wondering if it was ok for smallbore cowboy, it is the same pretty much as a stevens 44 wich is allowed in black powder (22 was a black powder cartride right?), so i may get to shoot it there the tube magazine may be the sticking point

and insight would be great thanks

You might get a local match director to let you by just because the Favorite is a "traditional design" rifle, but it doesn't qualify by the NRA rules. It's a bit odd that a stainless/synthetic autoloader with a tube magazine is just fine by the rules but a Favorite isn't. It's that way to keep everyone on even ground, I guess. Allowing a single shot like that would give a little bit of an advantage versus those who are using tube magazine guns that run the bullets through the loading mechanism, possibly slightly scraping/denting/etc. their bullets and harming accuracy a bit. I don't truly know if it would make any difference on targets as big as the cowboy targets, though. :)
