If we broke away, it would be just a matter of time when we would be right back where we are now. As long as people are involved, a few woud run it and many would bitch.

Lots of people would want to tweek the rules and we would have a jumble of stuff like we have now.

If clubs want to give out pins, cups, shirts, you name it, for prizes there is nothing stoping them.

There arn't enough competitive shooters in the US for the NRA to be making any money from us. They have become a political arm to save our rights to own and shoot guns so live with it.

If you realy feel strongly about the way the program is being run, become active and try to change it. Even though the NRA dosen't do much for us in our matches, we do need them so we can ownthe guns we love to shoot.

Jerry, I could not have said it any better, we all gun lovers need the NRA, an far as how much they do about about silhouette shooting. Who gives a shit, every club out there conducting sil. matches, can do whatever they want to promote their matches. Look at the match in Winnsboro, their attendance is bigger than the Nationals, and they do whatever they feel is required to make everybody enjoy the greatest match I ever been to. One thing, they do abide by the existing NRA rules.

It's always been my experience if you want something to happen you have to help make it happen. The people who stand around waiting for some one to give them something get nothing. Our club CSLC in central Pa. has a very strong and well attended silhouette program. This year we are hosting both SB and HP state matches. BUT, there is a small group of people who make this happen. The same people have been doing this for years. Everytime a match director wants to retire, everyone whines and worries that they won't have a place to shoot anymore. Step up and help. It won't kill you. You might even enjoy it. The more people who contribute the easire it is.
As far as the NRA and nationals. I go to see the fellow shooters from around the country who I have befriended over the years. That means more to me than a piece of paper or some trinket they might give out. Don't get me wrong I am there to compete, and every once in a while I will win something. I do feel bad for the first timers who win and only get award points. I got a call for state match info from a father who took his 10 yr old daughter to the SB nationals at Ridgway this year for the first time. She placed in her class and could not understand why she didn't get a throphy like she would at any monthly match. This is truely sad and the NRA should be ashamed. Al Foust

I personally don't disagree with you in the least. I have come to the opinion, though, that the NRA has lost some of its roots and is really losing generations of potential shooters (read, gun owners) by not investing in the shooting sports to recruit the new blood... I don't know, maybe there is some formula they have discovered that says more self-defense shooters or hunter shooters equal more money than sporting shooters?

Unfortunately ALL political lobby groups have gotten self centered and more about power and money and who they can buy off, just look at the salaries of these folks and the smiles on the politicians faces with their hands sticking out for the money.
