Target comparisons

Post by Kevin6q »

Hello All,
I was curious to see/compare a silo target to the NRA smallbore targets. I was wondering what a score might be taking into account the odd shape of the silo targets. I superimposed a silo target shape over the NRA A-23 50 meter target for pigs and chickens and used the NRA A-25 100 meter for turkeys and rams. I tried to balance the mass of the animal in the center of the NRA targets so these are pretty close for comparisons. I did this in CAD and will convert them to PDF is anyone wants copies just for S&Gs.

Essentially, the chicken requires a 9 ring or better and even the 9 ring is not a guaranteed hit. 10s and Xs will do it for sure.

Pigs 9 or better is a hit 3/4 of the 8 are good, 7s are the legs while the nose and tail just pip the 6 ring.

Turkeys need a 10 and a lucky 9 and 8 will net you the head, neck and a bit of leg.

Rams a 10 or better is a hit. 9s can be over the back or between the legs. 8 and 7 will be good on the head and butt anything else is a miss.

Now to go shoot these things and see what my score might be if I count the misses in addition to the animal hits.

I converted the CAD files to PDF and the scale is all screwed up. The chicken and pigs are fine but the ram and turkey shrank to fit the page. I can get them correct but it will take a bit of doing. PM me if you want to see these comparisons and I can email them to you. I can't seem to attach anything via the SC PM system.

Just in case anyone is interested I used Visio to create a set of scaled targets w/ as scaled overlay of the A25 (100y) target.

Almost forgot - The center ring is the X then 10, 9, and 8.
