Hypocrisy at it finest
After a quiet day of testing in the solar thermal lab to watch a visiting dignitary to the FSEC facility can be a true lesson in hypocrisy.
NY City mayor Michael Bloomberg visited to show his interest in renewable energy.
1) The day before his tour entourage arrives including 3 persons to inspect facility all of them packing and arriving in large vehicles.
2) He arrives with entourage of 4 Escalades including 5 visible large men in suits obviously packing, as well as a large group of press.
As we approach this year with elections and realizing that if you take the time to research all the of the presidential candidates actual voting records for current or previous offices held, none of them are pro-gun.
Having a child that will old enough to vote in this presidential election and having attended his high school graduation and listened to the valedectorian speech on how she saved her parents thousands of dollars by attending a "free" public school I can only be frightened of what the future leaders have been taught and are hearing in the press.
I can only provide to my son a poem his late grandomother wrote many years before he was born, when I was close to his age, for the junior rifle club that I was president of at the time. I give this with the advice that he take the time to research how each of the potential candidates that he can vote for have shown in their records and actions.

In social policy I end up on the left more often than the right and have been surprised at the depth of anti-gun sentiment from some. I know that nothing short of an outright ban will satisfy a vocal minority, and their hysteria prevents any real understanding. Like wise, extremists on the right baffle me: It

Great poem Mary thanks for posting it.
Reminds me a lot of a bill that just passed the Senate today and is going to the House for approval to allow us to carry in our cars when at work.
My corp. has a policy that forbids bringing firearms to work in your car. Yet the CEO and his cronies all have hired gun toters to cover their ass. Personally I don't put any CEO or politicians life value above that of my own they are just a person like myself with only one life to live.
So hopefully this bill will pass and our Corp HQ in New Jersey can shove it's policy where the sun don't shine. The issue should not even be up for debate or in need of a law since it should be a given that you have the right to defend yourself to and from work just as well as any other time.

Dee,
For your sake I hope the bill passes, we have passed a similar bill in Florida, but there are exceptions...Univeristies being one that you can not carry in your car. Floirda Solar Energy Center is a research facility for UCF, so that is part of my real objection to the Mayor BLoomberg. I like you, do not value his life over mine, and the facility does hydrogen research in the lab next to mine. The employees in that lab are mostly from the Middle East and India (a token Jamacian and one local) and for the most part do not even speak English well, so why should he feel threatened enough to have the two men in black with him at all times, two ahead of him at the next stop on his tour, one running between the current position and next on his stop, and one on the four vehicles outside.
To the others, reading the poem agian reminded me of how politically outspoken my mother remained all her life, both on the subject of guns but also environmental as whe also edited various rock collecting newletters.

Jerry, You just have no appreciation for the beauty, intelligence and unconditional love from a psittacine. Of course it is probably the rebellious and always curious nature of the Kea that is so fascinating to me. Innocent

BB,
I am up and about at various hours, depending on the current schedule and what the critters are doing when the possums and coons visit the chicken coop. Not to mention that it allows for intelligent conversations with the Swiss and Italians on Skype over global warming issues.
