Got my Rifle

Post by chuck d »

Thanks for all the info to my post on choosing a rifle. Went with Weatherby XXII and a 4200 6x24. Leopould high rings.
Couple more questions-
I don't have enough elevation to go to 100m. at 50 I have 19 clicks left, and shooting at a clay pidgeon I was a foot low with the scope topped out. Any recommendations on what direction to go?
AMMO-
Seemed to really like the old Eley silhouette (new stuff shot 4" lower, and group was "improved cyl" choke.) I found about 15 boxes I will have to grab locally. ANy place still have?
Also shot Remington/Eley match rifle as well. Anything else worth trying? These both shot one cluster whole, under 1/2 inch. an dmy benchrest skills are not that good anymore.

I will be shooting in NH, hope wiht some practice to make a couple matchs before summer is over.
THANKS!

uhmmm, i shoot the eley club extra, and it shoots great in my 1416,

uhmmm, to get elevation for rams, go with the burris signature 'Zee' rings, with interchangable plastic inserts which alow you to shim the scope
I do my best not to think i know it all, but i do know i know half of what i think i know now, so if i mess something up, cant i get an alibi?

Midway has Eley Silhouex on close out special, and it is discontinued. Cathy Winstead-Severin pointed me to the Eley Target Rifle, which everything loves, and the 54 action Anschutz likes Federal 711B though it does leave some lead behind in the barrel.

It is time to get out an old beer can and cut some shims. Usualy 2 thickness of can will do under your scope at the back mount.

They do make scope mounts that have ecentric inserts but the beer can works well and dosen't cost a thing. It's a quick fix that works well.

Hi Chuck D,
You going to be at Pioneer this Sunday? I shoot Fiocchi 22M320 and it works great. Midway sells it and I forget the cost. Its consistent and very clean. I'm hoping to drive down from VT (White River Junction area) to be at the start of the Pioneer event and if I see you there I'll fill a mag or two with the Fiocchi so you can try it. Kevin
