200 yard 22 Match

The 1st Sunday morning of June Benton Gun Club (Bryant, Arkansas) will have a 20 shot 200 yard prone 22LR Match (pending approval tonight at our club meeting) as an exploratory step in possibly having this an on going Match.

I know this is not standing or at steel critters, but thought you might want to bring you silhouette rifle out and see what happens. At any rate, no more toys to buy to play.

Who knows, this may turn into a chickens-at-200 yard Match.

At the Teddy in CO, we use to shoot at buffalo and crows out at about 150 yards, standing. It was fun. It took a whole hand-full of elevation over the rams to get a hit.

The Memphis Gun Club is shooting this Match every month now and are rather serious about it. I thought it would be like lobing rocks, but intrigued.

Took out a target 22 LR. a Suhl 150-1, and it would shoot no better than 12".............. Hm...................... What have I gotten into.

Then took a RF Silhouette 22LR, a Anschutz 1712. and it was shooting right at or under 2.5" with the same ammo - Eley Club EPS. Well now that was better. Maybe................

Only thing to be careful to rememebr is that the drop is around 24.5 MOA from a 50 yard zero. Or find a rock on the backstop and use it as a hold-over point of aim.

Some of us folk that play in the tactical games (ie sniper stuff/ practical precision rifle to be PC) like to shoot 200yds with a 22lr for practice......tends to mimic a 308 at around 800yds pretty well, elevation and wind effect-wise.

We shoot a 200m "FLY" rimfire Match. The "X" is a life size fly. The match is also shot at 500m with centre fire. If you hit the little bugger you can get a patch that tells all of your acheivment.

The Club approved this Match last night at our monthly club meeting.

The time will be about 11:30'ish, depending on how long the CF Prone Match takes which is immediately prior to this Match on Range 1. There will be a short period of time allowed for sighting in/verifying zeros immediate prior to the Match.

Cost will be Zero for Club members and $1 for non-Club members.

George runs the Prone HP match - 1st Sunday each month (now followed by the 200y RF Prone sounds like)

In pistol silhouette its called The Ultra 200. 3/8 size targets @ 50m ,100m, 150m, and 200m. Freestyle position, any sight/open sight.
OR!!!! There is always "Varmint" silhouette for the high power range.
Field mice 2" wide x 3" tall @200m, the original silhouette dove @300m, a squirel sitting on his haunches @300m, and for the 500m challenge a squatting rabbit with the ears folded down back of head 14" x 6". shot prone with front rest and rear bag. limited to 25 cal. 117gr bullet or less. 22 cal is a seperate class. shoot-offs are praire dogs @ 600m. For target size/shape contact Harold at Pala. (ncsapala.com) I know they have been shooting these for at least 5yrs and have even had a state championship. I believe it has been shot at Raton for exibition and Greg C. has been asked to add it to the NRA's list of santioned matches.

The Match went very well and the scores were amazingly close. First place was a 198, second a 197, and third a 196.

We have scheduled this match as an ongoing event every 1st Sunday morning at 8 am. This will be followed by the CF prone Match at about 11 am depending on how long the RF match takes.

Great fun and cheap compared to CF ammo prices now.
