Dave Imas is correct, come out and try a few different guns at the matches. What looks good and what fits 'you' can be two different things. In 21 years of smallbore silhouette shooting I have found that all the shooters are willing to let you try "theirs'. I shoot a Winchester 52, used to use a 40's made B, but now shoot the newer Japenese remake that came out in the 90's.
Through the years I have shot a Sako Finfire, Winchester's 52, and 67. Anschutz 54, Remington 541's and Ruger 10/22's in competition. Each gun has it's distinct advantages and disadvantages, try various ones and see what you like best.

The Weatherby XXII is an Anschutz 64 action in beautiful, well designed stock. Pricing places it perfectly between the CZ 452 series and the Anschutz 1710/1712. One of our club members uses one and it shoots very, very well. Definitely worth a look.

The Sako Quad looks like a very fine rifle that never caught on, so there are quite a few of them on the market right now at a deep discount. Never saw one in person, but have been deeply tempted.

steer clear of the Sako Quad, the barrel mounting mechanism is different than the Finnfire and doesn't work all that well in my opinion. On the other hand the Finnfire is superb!

Which is precisely why I haven't done it - when I'm tempted to an experiment like that it usually means an adventure...

Just curious as to what short comings you've found with your Quad sir, could you elaborate? Thanks.

Don't let people fool you about 64 actions! While true they are lighter built than a 54 (1712) action, they are plenty good for our game, esp if you get the match trigger (which I think the Weatherby MKXXII has). If I'm not mistaken, the barrels are the same Annie goodness.

My 64MSR standard gun will shoot just as well as my 1712 at 100m.

They stories of 64 actions being worn out are usually associated with club guns where they go through a bazillion different shooters of all skill levels hand's..........just be nice and don't slam the bolt back to its stop every time you open it, because the sear(?) is also the bolt stop and its a quick way to trash a nice trigger.

I almost bought the Wetherby last year, but mama gave me the green light for el Cubano to stick a 1712 in a Pharr stock for me.

If you have any inkling that you really want a 1712, but are gonna settle for now, take my advice and shoot a loaner or something cheap while you save for what you want.......I went through enough rifles "making do" and trying to stay cheap in the last two years that I could've had 2 1712's by now.

I've shot a Weatherby XXII and I think its a better starter gun than any CZ. It has a better trigger and more comfortable stock for off-hand shooting.

The guy who owned it complained that it wasn't accurate with all ammo. It was finicky and the owner claimed all it would shoot was Silhouex.

They aren't that bad compared to everything else out there, they aren't finnfire quality in my opinion. I had two quads, one in .22lr and one in .17hmr. My .17 shot decently with the factory barrel on it but the lilja barrel I put on it had a really tight chamber and wouldn't eat anything without shifting the POI on the rifle. Same story for my .22lr version. The scope has to come off to change the barrels. The rifle is a gimmick and as that it works well and shoots very well with the factory barrels. I just have a bad taste in my mouth for them at this point, that and the plastic bolt handle sort of screams cheap! You can have them for about 450 on GB right now NEW in the box, at that price they are a good rifle....

Ummm... Remind him that 10/22's shoot just about everything equally well, but he's playing in a different league now. If it likes Eley, feed it Eley. Suggest Sport or SK Jag, but those aren't cheap anymore either.
