what do you guys think about the anschutz olympic sporter for shooting silos?

Sorry, I was thinking of the sporter as in hunting rifle, not match rifle as the Euro's define it.......
The 64R as you put in the title of your topic is too deep from the barrel/action to the bottom of the forend.
Are you looking for a 64 actioned Standard rifle or a Hunter gun?
For hunter the a 1416 will do well, and for a standard gun the 64MSR

With the percentage of people shooting one gun in smallbore, 33% at the 2006 Nationals, just buy a 1712 and be done with it.

I plan to take the same survey at the 2008 SB Nationals at Ridgway this year and with everyone on this forum going to Pharr/Evelio built guns I sure that percentage is going to be higher.

I said this last year and will repeat it, "The day of the heavy gun in SB Silhouette is coming to a end". As long as the rules for Standard and Hunter keep getting similiar there's no reason to lift that heavy gun.
Check the scores from the last Nationals and there's very little difference in the top shooters in standard and hunter, some using one gun or very similiar gun setups.

I agree that you ought to pass up the 64 action sporter and go with a 54. Nearly everyone who gets into this game eventually buys a 1712 or similar 54 action sporter.

If money is an object, start with a CZ American. But you must plan on an immediate trigger upgrade. After shooting it for a year you'll yearn for a more comfortable stock and even better trigger.

I would suggest the CZ with the do it yourself trigger kit, over the Savage.

i think the cz 452 is a great place to start. the eric brooks trigger kit is pretty good,the automation soloutions ajustable sear from brownells is super duper just as crisp and creep free as you could want.

sticker shock is the #1 reason more beginers shy away in my area...so keep in mind if 33% are shooting annie 1712 then 67% are shooting something else

shoot the best you can without eating mac and cheese get the best glass on your rig that IMHO is where you get the most value from the big dollar

Brantman, If your just getting into the sport and want to shoot in both classes with one gun I recommend starting with a hunter gun like the CZ and stay away from the heavy barrel guns.
You can shot the light gun in both classes but you can only shoot the heavy gun in one class. So if you go match that has a Std / Hunter format you can shot twice.

rite now I have a mossberg 46b with a 6/24 on it I think its a good gun for the hunter class ,might just buy the cz american

Just go to shoot with what you have! If you like the sport and stick with it, my advice would be to get the best and be done with it.

I may not know too much, but I know I started about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I shot my 10/22t factory stock. Then I did a trigger job and put it into a Fajen silhouette stock. Then I got a Savage Anschutz Mark10D, then I got a CZ Silhouette, then I got a Annie 64MSR, all this before I got smart and got a 1712 in a Pharr stock, and that won't need upgrading/replacing for a LONG LONG time!

Buy once, cry once. I had to do it my way and went through enough money and trades to have built the custom 1712.........

There is really nothing wrong with a 64 action, or a CZ 452, the only draw back is the trigger, and the configuration of the stock, the trigger can be corrected fairly cheap, the stock is another story, if after you had either one, if you start thinking about re-stocking, at that point I would advise to switch over to a 1712, and then go all the way. You will be able to get all your money back on the Annie, if for any reason you need to sell it. For the money involved, and the after market parts, I would not mess with the Savage.

I wouldn't say the stock couldn't be corrected as easily as the trigger, Evelio. It's not that hard to take a stock starts looking like this..

I could have picked better rings and scope to throw on it to take the demo picture, though.

I think the stock was better than even the replacement trigger, which was better than the adjustable sear or trigger spring/shim kit. Neither compare to the 1712 factory trigger of the Pharr stock I'm using now, of course.
