Remington 37 Hunter is Finished

My Remington 37 Hunter is finally finished. My painter friend, David Durard, called this morning to tell me that he had just finished buffing out the paint. Some years ago David painted a Turbo benchrest rifle for me that I called the "Stars and Bars." I liked it so well that I asked that he do another American flag on this Pharr stock. David paints Harleys for a living and as you can see, he is a master of the air brush!

I owe thanks to several of the guys on this board for their help in getting this rifle together. Paul (stsbuyer) answered my question on the metal coating he had used on his 40x. Mark Pharr send me wood to make the butt plug (no jokes here guys) for attaching the recoil pad when he sent me the stock, and Elvio sent me gratis the recoil pad material. I made the alloy trigger guard (Mark's and Marvin's trigger guards are a REAL deal !). Howard Pitts of Pitts Precision Rifles here in Tennessee inleted the stock and turned the factory barrel down. I've found that you can get away with turning a cut rifle barrel down without hurting accuracy.

Remington 37s are typically heavy rifles due to the fact that they are made totally of machined steel (even the magazines). I have done three sporter class benchrest rifles on 37s (7 1/2# max with scope) , so I thought that I could make 8 1/2 # without a whole lot of trouble. This rifle weighs 8 pounds 4 ounces with the Weaver T16. I hope I can get a picture or two posted as I've never posted pictures before. Now it will look as good as it shoots!

I've created a monster.....now to sit back and enjoy the carnage....

Nice rifle....It should bring you as much enjoyment to handle and look at as to shoot.

Here are the bigger pictures. The image sizes aren't all that big, so they won't take long to download even for modem users, and they're worth the time to see them.

Btw, Choken.. how much would your buddy charge for painting up rifle stocks like that for other people? You might be generating him some business here.

Thanks Jason, That is much better.... I was hopeing to generate some busines for David. He did a Turbo bench gun for me (his first gunstock) about seven years ago. Folks that saw it wanted his work on their stocks too. These were all benchrest shooters. I told him that this might open up a new market ! I've seen a stock that he did that had a bald eagle in the foreground with a flag in the background that was too cool. He can do most anything. He did John Wayne drawing a pistol on the tailgate of his son's pickup. It looked like he could step out at any minute. He also tells a story about doing a nude of a guy's wife on the gas tank of his Harley. When the guy came to pick it up he had a fit saying that "It looks just like her and her mother will see it !" David said "What did he expect?" He had David paint the Harley Eagle to cover up the nude.

Price is dependent on the degree of complexity of the work. One like mine would be about $400. Single colors are about $150. He uses "House of Kolor" paints exclusively. The paints on my stock are "Chrome Pearls" and really do look fantastic in sunlight! He is a master at flames and pinstriping. ps Thanks all for the compliments...and it did add a couple of very purty ounces to the weight...it has 4 coats of clear plus two coats of two part sealer and two coats of pearl white as the base!
