2008 Nationals

Post by Perdiguero »

Hi Guys, I have been away from the silhouette community for a while but according to my calculations, and if memory serves me right, the nationals were supposed to rotate from Raton to Ridgeway then Phoenix. We had them in Phoenix in 2005 and even dough I could not attend my two boys did extremely well (Specially Adrian). Anyways, I though that 2008 nationals was supoosed to be held in Phoenix, what happened? :?:
Jim, any info?

Have they sent the entry forms out yet? Where to get one if I'm not on the mailing list?

Is that you Arnie? With the English Pointer? Phx didn't even request for the Nationals this year. I guess it is a understanding between the NRA and Phx, that Phx couldn't get target setters when the kids are in school, so that leaves the warmer months, and the NRA thought that the numbers were down, so it will go back and forth between PA and NM. As far as the entry forms, if you shot the prior nats, they are supposed to be mailed to you, if not you have to contact the Silhouette dept and request the forms, via e-mail or snail mail. www.nra.org will lead you to the silhouette dept.

Please don't throw any knives my way, just trying to respond....LOL

IT MIGHT have had something to do with the last Nats in AZ...

the 116* heat

$2 WATER

Less than 120 people (Was it 116?, I forgot)

The report from the persons attending that they would never return to AZ to shoot in the time frame avalible to the Nats..

I was not there, but this was the uniform response I got from everyone I had spoken with.

Hmmmm That was a cool day, good for walking :)

Can't wait till I get to move there 8)

My niece lives less then 10 miles from the BA range and I had planned to attend, but everyone here backed out and trying to drive there by myself was going to be too much of a deal and take to long alone. Fly you say... I'll never fly to a match to much hassle and to much junk to take. Starting to feel like a NRA HP shooter

I don't know about the rest of you but; I would rather be in AZ at 115 than LA at 98 or NM when one of thoes hail storm come through. The Windsbro matches were well run and fun but that humidity just kills me.

Guess it is dependent upon what you are used to.....I shot the nationals in Phoenix in the 116 degree heat and shot in the hailstorm at Raton this past year....IMHO, the hailstorm was much better......You could take shelter from the storm and it lasted only a little while...the heat in Phoenix was inescapable......

 Not exactly a "dry heat," down here in La. is it? More like a really wet heat. You should come down in July or August when the heat and humidity really get crankin. Nothing like sweat dripping in your eyes while your trying to shoot. Just think Winnsboro is probably not as bad as New Orleans and areas south of Interstate 10 either. They say you get used to it but after 37 years I am still not so sure about that, sweating is sweating and once you start here in the summer you don't stop.

From everything I have read and been told by past participants the Winnsboro match is the match to attend. So why not hold the Nationals in Winnie as well? Sure would make me happy not to travel 1200 miles to either of the other places if I wanted to attend. From the posts about last years Nats I am not sure I would invest much time, money and effort to get to one at this point.

Duckgumbo can speak eloquently to that subject...Official NRA line is that the Nationals have to be held in a place that can host both the smallbore and high power nationals so they can run them back to back.....

Hi Jim, yes it is me.... and yes I used to have Britts...I went to the pointers about 6 or 7 years ago. You guys cry too much about the weather, there will always be something to complain about at every match..... in my case, Pensylvania is too darn far..... I rather have the 120 degrees... ... any how shoot me an e-mail when you have a chance Jim.
