Something else that was discovered years ago. That Mary is very close to being correct.
Here is something to try. Get some old magazines such as the Rifleman or Hunter that are always laying around. Get into your shooting position with your rifle and assume the position. Next, slip one magazine under the ball of each foot and assume the position. Continue to add magazines as it may take 5 or more for you to start feeling the tightening in the back of your calves. To me this seems good. You may also want to try getting a shoe with a very low heel as this would do the same thing. Have you ever noticed the position shooters with the cute little shoes that have no heels? Think about it.

When thinking of footwear for shooting silhouettes think also that for the most part we are not in one place like air rifle shooters, if that was the case using shooting boots would be the right thing to do because they are designed specifically for that purpose. Silhouette shooters on the other hand most of the time have to walk to the targets to set them back up and if you like me go to several large matches a year will spend 10 to 12 hours at the range every day of competition. I suggest you use the most comfortable footwear you have whether designed for hunting, hiking, walking, working, etc.

See what the people that are winning most matches wear and do like wise, the important think is that you also train with them so that you will be fully used to them when shooting matches. Agustin Sanchez uses 10 inch lace up boots designed for hunting and I wear Hi-Tech brand hiking boots most of the time because they are about the only kind of foot wear that do not make my feet sore now a days. I have seen a couple of people like Mary shoot barefoot but unless you are the type that goes around barefoot all the time and train shooting that way I would not recommended it unless you try it first.

You may want to try landscapers or construction workers boots for shooting, get the ones with no heels. Cactus brand makes a bunch of them and Amazon sells them for a reasonable price. I have turned more than a few of this forum members on to that brand of boots for shooting and for the most part they have reported to me they liked them and are using them.
