smallbore rifle on pistol range

My gun club has a pistol silhouette range set up at 40-50-75-100. I will be starting a Jr shooting program in smallbore rifle .

Anyone have a scaled drawing to shoot pigs at 50 meters?

We have 1/2 scale for pistol and I will be trying to find 1/5 for rifle in the days to come if I can find out what the scaled down pig dimensions are.

The way our range is laid out adding a 60 meter burm will not work.

You should give 1/2 scale RF rifle silhouette a serious copnsideration. Our Club shoots 1/2 scale at the same ranges as 1/5 scale and has garnered a lot of new shooters including juniors and women. We allow shooters under 16 years of age to use a forearm rest due to less developed upper body strength.

We have a grill and encourage shooters and their families to bring meat for the grill and stay afterward for a family style BBQ.

This has worked out very well for our Club and is bringing new shooters into the matches and is great fun as the targets are larger and the scores higher.

Good idea for the beginning But eventually I would like to get registered matches going.

You can actually run an approved match along with setting up the larger targets for the newer shooters to get them started...so they are not overwhelmed with all the details to learn about starting. Their scores just do not count for classification.

As for the targets, Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol has the same situation and we do have some reduced targets, I will have to check, but my memory is that the pigs are reduced another 30% from the 1/5 scale targets. The set that we have was custom made but I believe there is a company in California that made some also.
All other 1/5th scale animals are acceptable.

We shoot our pigs at 50 meters, Reduce them 18%, thast will give you the right size. Hope that helps.

That helps guys. Seems like 18% will be the number. We have a target maker here, MGM targets, that will make the targets for us I just needed to know the size to reduce it.

I like the idea of using half to start with as we have 30 or 60 of those. I will try to figure out NRA sanctioning here in the next week or so.

One of our local clubs runs sanctioned SB matches and Cowboy rifle matches but they are mainly a handgun silhouette club with ten banks of targets at 40-50-75-100-150 and 200 meters.

We shoot the 1/5 size targets at 40-50-75 and 100 and believe me the scores are not any different than if we were shooting the targets at 60 meters. We even had a State match there a few years back and we did not reduce the size of the pigs we shot at 50 instead of 60 meters.

My advice to you is not to worry about it, if you only have 50 meters and already have the 60 meter targets go ahead and use them the only difference is that instead of going up 2 1/2 minutes to pigs at 60 meters you only go up four to five clicks if pigs set at 50 meters.

You might want to talk to someone over in Vale OR. They have a SB and a HP range just out of town a little ways.
