CZ Trainer Stock Mod Project

Post by NewAZShooter »

Well, here is what I have accomplished so far on the old stock that came with my "new" CZ 452 silo. Cheek piece to raise my eye to the scope and LOP extension were the main things. Had to glass bed it too, while I had it in the shop. It'll need another go at the bedding to clean it up and fill in those air pockets, but here's where its at. My first attempt here, so please be kind.

Managed to get it stained yesterday, so it'll have to dry some more before I spray on the clear finish. I only added 3/8" on the LOP via that walnut spacer, and ended up cutting and sanding off a lot of the maple chunk I glued on for the cheek with a belt sander and a jigsaw. I didn't know how much I'd want for shaping, so I glued on a rather huge chunk starting out and had to work it down.

After it's all completed I'll post a new link to the "after" images. Hopefully it'll turn out alright.

Sweet!!
That's alot like what I was gonna do with it! Glad to see it working out for you John. When you get it to fit you just right you can go 50/60 I'll bet!
Usually shooting scores right in class, too bad its the class below my classification!

Thanks Steve. That would be great if I could shoot that well after the stock is all done. Since I just made it into AA, 50/60 seems a ways down the road. But hopefully a better fitting stock will help, as you suggest. That's the hope anyway. It needs another several coats of finish and some time to cure, but I'm sure you'll see the new modified stock on the line soon enough.

I am still deciding on scope power for my CZ as well. I've been having some success with lower power, first with your 12x that day, then with my 16x. It makes it seem like I'm more solid and less wobbly. But I have my eye on a new leupold in 30x fixed.

I can't wait to see your new dressed-up blinger on the line at BA. I got a quote from Evelio a while back, but I can't justify the expense at the moment, so I'll have to live vicariously through you guys for awhile. It's gonna be awesome. You and Tim will have to have yourselves a shoot-off with your nice Anschutz/Evelio specials.

I'll definately have the rifle for the Hassayampa Memorial match 03/01. It is done, and was shipped, my FFL got it Fri, but unfortunately I had to work until after his shop was closed. He left for the SHOT show last night and won't be in until Friday, so my wait has been extended a bit.......at least I know where it is, and its in town!

Bummer about having the rifle in town but not in hand. I bet you're chomping at the bit to get your hands on that beauty.

Well, the CZ stock mod is done. It came out alright. Not perfect, but at least it still looks like a rifle. I posted a few new images here...

Final weight is 7lbs 13.2 oz. as shown. So depending on how it balances and feels, I might add some fore-end weight. If the rain lets up, I'll test fire it at the range this week. How about those Giants!

I went by AZEX today, just to see if anyone there could do the transfer.........no dice, but I did get to visit with it for a few minutes

The CZ looks great, nice job on the wood. At least now when you kick my ass with it it doesn't look like my old gun

Steve, Did you check out Derrick at RSSC, for the gun transfer. I think he charges 20.00 or 25.00. I bought a gun from Champions Choice, he was on file, they just shipped it.

I test fired the CZ 452 in the newly modified stock this morning. She shoots roughly the same groups as she did in the synthetic stock. No noticeable accuracy improvement, but at least its no worse either, plus the rifle fits me better now, which in theory at least should help my scores. And of course, it was a fun weekend project to keep me in the shop while relatives were visiting from out of town.
