1712 Ejection Problems Solved!

Post by edgehit »

While practicing in the wind today, I got fed up with my 1712 failing to hurl the empty cases past the breech. On my rifle, the empties get thrown up into the scope's windage turret and from there they fall back into the open breech.

I thought, "you know, all this needs is something to help deflect the case away from the turret."

Our range has a toolshed and recycle bin full of aluminum cans.

I snipped out a peice of Dr Pepper aluminum and grabbed a roll of duct tape. After all, duct tape and bailing wire is all you need to fix stuff, right?

I had 100% ejection after this fix.

You envious guys can buy one of these lightweight miracle case deflectors for $19.95 + S&H. If you order now, I'll give you the duct tape. If you're not 100% satisfied, return the deflector, but keep the duct tape as your special gift.

COOL-That's gonna be the first thing I do when I get my 1712 from Evelio!!!!
Usually shooting scores right in class, too bad its the class below my classification!

Not to be a wet blanket here, but I'm pretty sure it's a venal sin to put duct tape on an Anschutz......Maybe if you rename the tape...

Nope, it's OK, he used a Dr. Pepper can, so it's all good.

I think only that new Gorilla Tape should be used on an Anschutz :?

The Dr Pepper can is just a prototype. I'm thinking the next generation will use clear acetate film and fasten it with 2 sided adhesive right onto the action. Resulting in an IMPROVED deflection angle for better shooting enjoyment.

Hey, I can even get the printable version and customize it with intitials, logos, etc.

Who's taking orders? I'm thinking people will be lining up for these things.

I have a better plan, but it does not involve duct tape or DP can or Aggie engineering.

If you had a mill, it would be real easy.

I will bring it Tuesday if you show up for the match.

My solution is a little simplistic........I flip the bolt a little harder and the cases go further.........

How about moving the scope till the windage knob isnt directly over the breech and adjusting your shooting position to fit the new scope placement. K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid

Edgehit is not only commiting a Venal Sin, Kitty (impeding the progression of his soul) but he, in fact, is commiting an ORIGINAL SIN! As far as I can tell he is the first to do this.

Whether or not he is commiting a Mortal Sin may depend on what happens if Deiter sees the duct tape.

A Pater Noster for you, Edgehit.

Umm.. I noticed that I have a habit of tilting my rifle to the right slightly as I cycle the action. Maybe that's why I don't have this problem. It's certainly not something unique about my rifle, as I have the same 1712 action/Pharr stock/T24 scope as so many others.

Hotbrass,
You don't even know where that mill is. Besides, how do you mill Dr Pepper cans? Isn't it easier to use tin snips?

Ha ha ha. see you Saturday.

Jason,

I am with you, I don't seem to have this issue.

Steve,

If you plan on putting one once of duct tape on that Evelio special, I am calling him and requesting that he send you a 504 instead.
