SB match today

I would like to congratulate John (newazshooter) on an unbelievable match today. He shot a AAA score for 42/60 in standard and followed up with a 36/60 in hunter. He won both A classes.

My match went almost as well, I was able to match my personal best of 31/60 in AA hunter for a 3rd place tie. It was cold in the morning but warmed up some late morning for a beautiful day of SB shooting.

Credit for today goes to you, our local shooters and Steel Chickens forum users for all the fabulous info and advice you all had to offer this season.

Conditions really were beautiful today. We didn't dail a single click off of our 4 animal zeroes all day. Wind flags and the hot-air baloons lifting off in the hills behind the range showed a slight prevailing headwind from about 12:30 to 1:00 o'clock. Perfect light jacket weather in the 50's-60's and a great day for shooting.

I hope Arizona still has a few days like today left come April when we shoot the State HP match.

When I retire I need to move somewhere warmer. 27 degrees this morning in Central Mississippi. Wind has been blowing up to 30 miles per hour with several inches of rain the past few days. When it thaws out later today the ground will be a muddy mess. Winters in Mississippi are not as warm and nice as most people think. Arizona sounds great.

.... Not much better here in New York. Our last outdoor match was the end of August and we don't shoot again till May. There are a spattering of matches from other clubs in between but for the most part we only have 4 months of Silhouette here at two of the local clubs.

Forunatly we do have indoor Sporterifle, shoot at 6 bull paper targets September till March, but the weight limits on that is 7.5 lbs so we can't shoot our Silhouette rifles for it... You would think all the shooting groups would get together and come up with the 8.5 lbs for all the different matches shot with a hunter type rifle wouldn't you. Now you need several guns to shoot in all of them... but that's not bad either

Don't forget us here in Florida! It's 82 today, hot and sunny. Our range (Hollywood Rifle and Pistol Club) has been here since 1936 and has to be the last outdoor range in the middle of a large metro area. Smallbore prone is my thing but our sillouette matches are growing. We do it all, IMSA and NRA. And it's three blocks from my house! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY, Kevin

Arizona's a nice place and all that and the winters must be nice......But they redefine the word SUMMER.......Remember the nat's at Ben Avery a few years ago....Was so dry that when the chuckwagon gang hosed the desert down to keep fire danger down when they lit the mesquite fire to cook the burgers over (By the way guys, SAND doesn't burn) you could actually smell the water......Now, that's dry......

After spending 2 fabulous winters (2002-2004) in Wisconsin freezing my a$$ off, I keep a magnetic picture of the thermometer in the Wisconsin's patio deck showing 20 degrees below zero posted on the side of the fridge here in Tucson.

It may get hotter than hell here in summer, but you don't have to shovel heat or sunshine.
