Indoor Range -- 50' work

Hi folks

Don't tell anybody but I'm now a pistol RO at the local club (constant temp, no snow). I've been shooting scaled 50' targets over the last couple of weeks and ----- it's getting better! I just wish I could have purchaced a "couple" of cases of eley sport....

I've yet to shoot a real match outdoors with metal targets -- but as a new RO I'm going to shoot once a week -- can you suggest past threads or a practice session that would allow me to work on while at the range?

Great fun -- shooting a cooper with lower back grief! (just returned from the range after 4 hours and 600 rounds).

ps. Wife is open to road trips -- looking to meet fellow members this summer as we escape MI...

Congrats on the RO job. I do the same thing at my local range. That gets me free range time when I want to practice. Nice deal.

I'm too lazy to go looking for a past thread but....when you're at the range you can work on all the usuals: natural point of aim, good position, breathing, focus and trigger control. Any good shooting book can get you started. I'm not such a great shooter so I'm still working on these.

One thing I like to do at the range is put the timer away and work on making what I call "One Good Shot", trying to put all the details together without rushing the shot or accepting a bad situation.

Maybe that will give you a start and others might chime in. Good luck to on your shooting.

Olive, Shooting indoors at paper is perfect for working on your follow through. Since the paper doesn't move on impact there is not anything jumping or spinning to distract you; you should be able to see the bullet impact the paper on every shot. If you are not seeing this, work at it. It will transfer to shooting outdoors in a real match and your scores will improve. Al Foust

When I shoot "silhouette" style indoors, I don't even bother with scaled targets...... I got a Bingo marker from my wife (pale colors are the best) and just dot the target......

I pull shot targets out of the recycle box, turn them over, patch the holes with masking tape, take my Bingo marker and cover the thing with rows of 5 dots..... the dots are usually 3/4 or 1" in diameter, and they make a good target...... with a good scope you usually are searching out little marks or specs in the Bingo dot to drive the cross hairs or Target Dot toward......

As posted above, concentrate on keeping your scope eye open and your shoulder still.... more shots are lost (and targets missed) by "helping shoulder" than anything else......... Good Luck
