Where to buy a nice air rifle for basement practice?

I'm looking into buying a nice air rifle for basement practice. I need something quiet, accurate, and that simulates the feel of a SB Silhouette rifle somewhat closely.

I'm thinking of an older match rifle, something like a Walther LGR or a FWB300S, but if there are other (or better) choices, I'm certainly interested in learning about them. I'm not looking to spend $1000, but I also realize that nice stuff does not come cheaply.

My concern about the PCP rifles is the noise associated with the high power levels that I normally equate to PCP rifles. I don't need a 1000+ fps air rifle that sounds like a .22 to shoot 10M in my basement. I'm hoping for something "mellow", easy and pleasant to shoot. Being "scope-able" would be a defininte plus.

I have heard that the Walther LGR's are more scope friendly than the FWB 300's, so that would probably be my current first choice.

Are there places that specialize in selling 10M air rifles (new or used)? I'm not currently having much luck finding these sources online.

Neal Johnson usually has a good selection. I like my 2002 it has the same trigger as my 54.18 and pretty quiet. also try targettalk.org classifieds

I use a Beeman R7 I bought from StriaightShooters. Nice balance, a good 2 stage trigger, and quiet. I think I paid less than $400 a few years ago for the gun. scope, mount, muzzle break, and cleaning kit. It's a good shooter and I've thought about using it for airgun silhouette.

I've got an LGR and it is not as scope friendly as a 300S. I have one of those, too. Buy the best rifle you can in your price range. What is it? PM me if you want, I'm not trying to sell you anything, as my stuff is left handed. Based on what you say you want, a 300S or a Diana 75 seem to be the logical choices. The Tx200 is great for practicing follow thru, because it jumps. The Anschutz 2002CA/2002SSP have the same trigger as a 54.18, but are a lot heavier. The SSP one is nice, cuz you don't need a tank. FWB 600 series is great, but you have to cut the gate to scope it, and the scope is pretty high. Great triggers though. Walther LGM2 is nice, but you need to cut the lever. good luck!

Another good review for Airguns of AZ.

One time I got something from them I was about thirty bucks shy of what I bought, except for a hundred dollar bill I had, and they didn't have change handy. Instead of having me go break the hundred they gave me my purchase and said "pay me the rest next time you buy something".

I think it was my second or third time in there in as many years when they said that, and its not like I dropped huge amounts of dough there before. I thought that was above and beyond for service, and of course I found an excuse to go back and pick something up I marginally needed shortly thereafter.

Been recommending them since.

In person Airguns of AZ might be fine but shipping is another story. Ordered two boxes of cleaning pellets at $4.50 a box, paid $11.90 in shipping to Florida for something that could have fit into a padded envelope and shipped for less than $1.00. Wasn't informed of the shipping cahrge until it arrived.

You need a 'farter' that shoots about 500 fps. Then you can mount any scope on it and not worry about tearing it up.

If I could find such a Farter at a reasonable price, I'd be happy to throw down the bucks for one.

Any ideas for a specific Farter?

I have a chance to buy an Anschutz LG250 with a cantelevered BKL mount and a decent scope for $500.

I'm no expert on match air rifles - what are other's opinions of the LG250?

A farter is one that works on release of air and not the forward movement of a plunger. Mine is a Dina(sp) 100 and off bags will shoot a one hole group at 10m all day long. Check the web, there is a place in TN that specializes in air rifles. You may find a used one at a reasonable price.

If you want to plunk down a cool $1000 you could get a RIKA trainer to attach to any gun you have and shoot it in your house. It wil tell you a lot more than any air rifle ever would about how you shoot. That way you can train with the gun you shoot at the match.
