That's nice and all, but doesn't make it right. I've sent back $1000 scopes because the mech/optical centers were too far out for me to take advantage of the elevation range I paid for.

I'm really surprised that Mueller wasn't more helpful. Spread the news at RFC.com-I think that a good portion of Mueller's success if from the positive press they've had over there.........

Live by the internet, die by the internet. Mueller should know to be careful, but there is a reason I pay extra for Leupold or Weaver.

I use Burris Signature rings for both my HP and smallbore rifles. They allow centering of the scope in both windage and elevation using the optional inset kit. The Signature Zee rings are for weaver mounts. The downside to the Singature rings is that they are steel and are therefore heavy (4.5 oz, two zee rings). If you're tight on weight they may not be a good choice. Pick the range where you want it centered, since other than that range it will be off center.

I went to the range Saturday and confirmed that the scope is fine (well, it wasn't broken, so if you want to argue scope quality, we can use another thread for that). At the advice of others, I set the optical center on the scope before re-mounting it, and the first shot using Federal AM was 1/8 inch high, and 2.5 inches to the left of center. It was a bit breezy so I think that accounts for the windage spot.

I also found that my gun really likes Wolf M/T, Federal Auto-Match, and CCI Std Velocity. They each required their own scope adjustments, but they all do pretty well.

Every ammunition does take different adjustments, and I'd love to know why. Elevation is easily understood because of the variability in actual load, not just from brand to brand but from one lot to the next of the same ammunition. Windage is harder for me to understand: Is it minute differences in rifling engagement? Cartridge case construction and composition?

Kitty has (rightly) accused me of too much curiosity, but an accurate observation does not constitute a cure...

I am just guessing (I'm not a ballistics expert), but I think the required windage adjustment is due to the weight/speed of the bullet in question as it is being affected by the wind. Light/faster rounds may be more adversely affected than slower heavier rounds.
