SB Shoots in South Texas...Houston or San Antonio?

Post by glocker17 »

What locations hold SB Rifle shoots, I live in the McAllen/Brownsville area and would like to make a few shooots this winter to get tuned up for 2008. I am prepared to drive a considerable distance if needed. Wondering what the schedules are like in Houston and San Antonio areas. Any help is appreciated.

I don't think any clubs in Texas have matches after the middle of October because deer season starts in November. However...

--------

Central Texas Silhouette Association has a February-October monthly shoot (1st Sunday of the month). You don't need to be a member to compete, but joining would help in terms of range maintenance. As a member, you have access to the range anytime you want (combination lock) and you can bring your own targets (paper or steel). The range is maintained pretty well.

They shoot in New Braunfels (between Austin and San Antonio). I went there yesterday and met some of the folks that shoot, and they're a real nice bunch of people. One guy even let me shoot his fancy Anshutz (sp?).

Since deer season opens up in November, the club doesn't hold matches because everyone is out hunting for Bambi.

--------

There's also the Austin Rifle Club. I've never been to their range, but the URL is here:

These guys appear to have shhots every month (even during the deer hunting season).

--------

Finally, there's San Antonio Rifle And Pistol Club, but if you go to their website, it's unclear what kind of small-bore matches they hold, or if they even have a range at which to compete. In any case, here's their web site:

Blake,

Bayou Rifles in Houston shoots year round 2nd Satuday and 3rd Sunday every month. That is at least for the rest of this year, I am not sure if they will do both weekends next year. You can get a map and more info here http://www.bayourifles.org/

I hold smallbore matches at PSC in Friendswood, TX just south of Houston. We shoot 4th Saturday of the month Feb-Nov. My match on October 27th will be the club Championship we will have 2-60 shoot matches. You can get a map and more info here http://www.psc-range.com/

Feel free to contact me if you need more information.
