Defective Targets--Beware!
I'm not going to mention the company for fear of legal retribution, but...just so you all know....
I just bought a full set of targets and set them up on my home range. Thusfar, I've only shot at the Rams (100 yds) and the Chickens (40 yds) and I've had the following problems:
First...they won't sit still in my scope!! No matter how much I try those things bob and weave like Casius Clay....Defective, I tell you...defective!!!
Second...when I can get them to sit still for even a micro-second they won't fall down! Defective, I tell you.....
Third....when I do get one to sit still long enough and when that one that sits still long enough does manage to fall down like its supposed to then I can't find it when it's time to set things up again!!! They hide!!! Cowards that they are.....
Just wondering if anyone else had these problems??

Irish,
You do not say what part of the S.E. US you are in but let the addiction begin!!!!
This addiction can be a problem in parts of the US as it does tend to get a bit cool and the animals really like to hide in the snow I've been told, thus winter time withdrawals can become painful. With some careful planning an occasional break to some fo the fun matches held in Florida can relieve this stress. Another release for the withdrawal symptons is to purchase an air gun set and shoot in the house for those without controlling spouses that tend to get irrate over such behavior.
In any case the current schedule for the Dan Healey Southern Trifecta starts with the Sunshine Classic (Jacksonville, FL) set for the first weekend in May 2008, followed by the infamous Southern Nationals (Winnsboro, LA) first weekend in June and the Mid South Classic (Benton, AR) the third weekend in September. Plan on attending all of the events as they are some of the best food you will ever eat, not to mention a great prizes and lots of side bets, general harrassament and overall great time.
For more immediate starting point I will again mention the Georgia State Championships November 3rd and 4th, this is a great match with local flare to the dinner, that has proven to be fantastic every year that I have attend over the last 10+years. There is an entry form under another heading on the forum.
May our expensive addiction to defective targets spread and be enjoyed by all.

Chardonnay..
I noticed that! After 25 rounds one of them (that's right...ONE) decided he'd had enough and surrendered.
As I continued to load (5 rounds at a time) the fatigue began to set in and more began to fall....an obvious defect in their cardiovascular system but one I intend to exploit!

Have you ever been bird hunting with your dog and missed a shot, only to have your dog look up at you as if to say, "You dummy! How am I supposed to fetch 'em if you can't shoot 'em?!"
I've seen targets that give me that same sort of look... "What?! Do you expect me to stand here all DAY?!... I'm WAITING!!"

Oh, how much I wish I could say that I haven't seen that look from my dog. There have been many times that I was glad my birddog couldn't talk. If she could, I expect that she'd say something like "I'm out here busting my butt to find the birds, point them, and retrieve them. You have one job, to shoot them, and you can't even do that?!"Worker 11811 wrote:Have you ever been bird hunting with your dog and missed a shot, only to have your dog look up at you as if to say, "You dummy! That sounds like a defective bird dog! Hell, if I miss a shot (it happens) my dog just keeps chasing the bird and will eventually bring it back. It's kind of economic that way. I limit my losses to just the two shells and still get the profit.
O' course, I'm really a softy at heart. I figure the dog scared the daylights outta the bird causin' it to jump in the air, screaming obscenities. Then two near miss (all my misses is near) causes more avian obscenities. This I figure is one hell of a day for a peace loving, rural resident unused to California freeway driveby shootings and I just pity the poor things.
I call, "No bird!" to the dog and that's when I get the look. The one with the ears down and back and the beady eyes that says, "What the H*!! do you mean, 'No bird!'" "What do you think I just found after runnin' my tail off for you through all that alfalfa and cat tails and weeds and you can't even hit it!"
She don't look at me for a while after that. That must be why I shoot silhouette. The dog ain't there to give me The Look.
