Need Some Terms Clarified

I'm new to this thing...haven't even shot a competition yet. But, I've built two 10/22 set-ups. One for me, one for my daughter....

In reading these posts I've come across some terms that I was hoping to get some clarified:

Overtravel? I know it has to do with the trigger mechanism but that's about all I can gather.

A Shooter, B shooter etc....what are the classifications and what determines one's place in each?

As a follow on to # 2: What are "acceptable" scores in each? In othe words, for my first match (in October) what category would I shoot in and what would be considered a "respectable" showing?

Well let me take a stab at it for you...

Overtravel. It's the amount the trigger moves (continues to travel) after the sear disengages and the firing pin goes off.

Acceptable scores: Anything that goes down is acceptable Really it's a fun bunch of folks and it doesn't matter what you shoot. Just go out shoot and enjoy, don't worry about your scores it will all come in time. High scores come with one thing and one thing only PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.

Your first match you shoot unclassifed and the scores fired in that match establish your calssification. As Bob said, any animals that fall (in sequence) are acceptable. Do not worry about the score, just have fun. Look forward to seeing you ast the matches.

Ok, here is the ifo that I have

Standard Rifle 40 shot match
B=0-14 A=15-20 AA=21-27 AAA=28-33 Master=34+

Hunter Rifle 40 Shot match
B=0-14 A=15-19 AA=20-25 AAA=26-31 Master=32+

Takes one score to classify, if you classify B it takes 2 scores above B to move up, three scores above your class to move from A on up.

Knock as many animals over as you can. Have fun. Scores are only as important as you make them and only important to you. Silhouette shooters always welcome a new competitor. At you rfirst match talk to as many people as you can. You'll find everyone will help with any questions you have.

i just shot my 4th match today! i have found everyone super nice, friendly and willing to help in any way. my goal for the first time out was to shoot 1 animal on each string of 5. on a 60 shot match, that is 15 total. that was my goal, i didnt even know what the the classes were until my last match. try to call the match director or just head out and show up an hour or so early to get your scope dialed in at each animal and have a blast. i tried to just aim higher at the further animals and it was tough. i suggest finding a bench and shooting at the chickens, wright down your scope settings, shoot at the pics, mark the settings, shoot the turkeys, mark and the rams and mark it down. most matches have "sight in" targets set up and it will help you a lot to get these first. hope this helps
