CZ 452
Hello, me and my family are new members to this forum as well as to the Red Castle Gun Club in Tulsa OK. I have 3 out of our six family members who love to shoot silhoutte. We went to a competition this weekend and heard about the CZ being a great entery level rifle for the price. Can any one point me to the right place to buy one and maybe even scope recommendations? I have looked at some of the leupolds, but I am not sure about what is really needed and what is overkill. Thanks, Bob

I can't tell you where to buy a CZ in OK but you never can go wrong with buying a 6.5 to 20 Lepold with target knobs. They are not cheep but you can always re-sell the thing for just about what you have in it. A good clear piece of glass is always better than more power. The power can be boosted but cloudy glass can never be cleaned up.

If you're interested in a used CZ 452 Silhouette, let me know. It shoots well, but would benefit from bedding.
Jerry is right about the glass. Leupold is my favorite, particularly with the Leupold Dot reticle (George can take care of that little detail for you).

The CZ 452 is a great choice. There's not much in between it and an Anschutz for an out of the box gun. They do benefit from bedding and a trigger upgrade. Timminy has a nice trigger upgrade out that you can get from Chicken George.
The Bushnell 4200 Elite 6 X 24-40 is also good glass to put on the '452. They offer a duplex, dot or multi-dot reticle. Close or same as the Leupold 6.5 x 20 as far as clarity and repeatability but at just over half the price.

Whitakers Guns is supposedly THE largest retailer of CZ's in the country. Their web address is .. http://whittakerguns.com/
Price of the American, Lux, Style and the Silhouette is $306, the varmint is $329.
I think they charge $10 for long guns to ship...
Timney triggers, from me of course! LOL $65 shipped
Scope recomends, Leupold is the defacto standard, I sell them with the custom dot (used to be called the silhouette dot by Premier) for $600 shipped, The bushnells are fine glass (I shoot them on my rifles) BUT they are 1/8 MOA scopes, AND total travel = ~21 or so MOA... I do not recomend them to new shooters price is ~ $400??? for 6-24 don't know off the top of my head. The other scope that I sell the most of is the Weaver T-24 with 1/4 MOA clicks and 1/2 MOA dot. I sell this for $375 plus ship. With you being new, I would not reccomend starting off with the Weaver BUT you may want to look through one....
I would reccomend the Leupold, even if you decided to ditch the sport later, the resale is the highest on the market, take care of the lens and the keep the box! LOL. The bushnells are great, but I have seen people take a $100 hit on a sub $400 scope... Both are great options..
Hope this helps, sorry for the "hard sell" LOL

Sorry I missed the last shoot...the best place in town to buy the CZ is at Second Hand Rose Pawn. I think they are at 4th and Untica / Lewis area. Go see John there. I paid $375 out the door. Make sure you have cash though no credit cards allowed. My CZ is a much better shooter than me as the guys and gals who shot with me at Benton would agree. Its a fine rifle and it is worth every cent. The trigger is adjustable and make sure you get a good set of rings that match the special flat surface of the scope lands in the top of the reciver. I bought LYNX from Roses too and they are perfect. Or call Chicken George and he can hook you up. I mounted the Weaver T-24 from Chicken George too and it made a big difference. I should be at the Red Castle shoot in March with my 2 little guys so look for me. Take care all.
