Setup Pics and Explanation

Post by Mt_Medic31 »

I just dig other peoples gun setups, and like to learn how other people do things, in hopes of improving my own setups.
Voodoo22a.jpeg

I was out of work a couple months with a hurt back, so Built up a Ruger Target Tactical 10/22.
- Stock barrel, bolt, hammer and reciever
- Vlqt Charging handle, spring, bolt buffer,
- Tacsol mag release, 20moa picatinny rail, Barrel Block (Angled to help freefloat)
- Boyds Evolution stock in Forest camo
- Burris Tactical rings, with picatinny top for front one
- Bushnell 4200 4-16x50mm Duplex, and Vector dot sight on top ($40 on ebay vs $200 burris fastfire, holds fine 1/2" groups at 30 yds)
- Stripped rifle completely, Polished inside of receiver to mirror before ever shooting it, 1200 grit, and then polishing compound, to smooth out action, and it really did.
- Duracoat Designs by yours truly. I do alot of it on the side. A little extra dough to pay for toys and maintenance.
- Whole thing weighs 8lb 3.2oz, so no problems getting into match.

Shoots EXCELLENT, I honestly shoot .8" groups at 100 yards with Wolf MT with it. POI was too low to zero initially, I think because of barrel droop with the Free float, and the fact that the 4200 only has 50moa travel. I put on the Tacsol barrel block, and the up pressure brought me to zero at highest setting, so shimmed the rear ring with a piece of pop can aluminum. The shim comes out to .005 inches with caliper (or was it .05?), which comes out to 10" at 100 yards. So with the shim I was in business, and you truly cant see the shim if you trim it to not poke to the edges. I know they say 10/22's are not for comp, but I think this is PLENTY of gun for SB silhouette. It certainly shoots better than my Class A @ss.

This might be better posted in the smallbore section.

Sorry to hear about your back, but it looks like you made some lemonade. :D

.8" at 100 yards should be accurate enough for anyone! Work on that hold and you got no one to blame but yourself when you shoot anything less than a 40/40.

Nice build. I especially like the tribal art. That blue mag release sort of stands out though. You gonna duracoat that?

Does tribal art constitute a new category of Bling?

Nice detailing - the more you look the more you see! You've made good use of your layup - hope all is well by now.

thanks guys, yeah, back to work now. The project certainly helped pass the time. It seems weird, but I kinda dig the blue mag release, so decided to leave it. I couldn't figure out where to post this. Searched several threads for "Setup, pics", and no thread like this popped up, so Posted under clubhouse secondary to the "General BS-ing" heading.

I couldn't be happier with the groups this gun makes, it surely shoots better than I'm capable. Been workin on the hold. The turkeys kick my ass though.
