Mary and the Magic Bullet

Post by hambone49 »

Another tall (but true) tale from Ridgway... On Monday after the smallbore match we went up to the highpower range to check it out. A few guys were up there shooting at 1000 yd steel coyotes in a strong wind. A few of us tried it (including Mark Pharr) to no avail, and along comes our beloved Mary. She plops down, takes one shot, knocks over the coyote, and say's "what's the big deal?," and leaves. As we say in show business, "Always leave em wanting more... Here's our gal right before the shot, the coyotes are waaaay out there.

Mary shot the Az and Texas state HP matches this year, wind was no problem for her there!

Because nobody takes the time to post them same as the Southern National Results.

I know because I talked to Mark Pharr that Enrique Kuess Jr. from Saltillo Mexico won standard rifle with 98, Gabriel Villarreal from Monterrey, Mexico came in 2nd Open with 95 and Mark Pharr got 3rd Open with 94.
In Hunting Rifle Ben Marzella and Derek Greenaway tied for MW and Ben won the shoot off and the Championship, Erik Boos got 3rd Open, other than that I do not know since there were no NRA BLOGS or articles from the local paper. They had at least 8 articles for the SB matches.

Carols Moreno won AA class, and Mallory Nichols won High Sub Junior in one of the rifles...Susan Perry was High Lady, getting small bits of information from various sources.

As for the coyote shoot at a 1000 with 6.5X284...all you have to do is listen to the discussion about where they are holding on the misses, watch the bullet impact and Kentucky windage it!!

Thank you Mary, and Tony, that's good info. Tony I bet your friends Enrique Sr. and Enrique Jr. are pretty happy, it looks like Carlos Moreno did real good also. Little Mallory did great too.

Mallory was doing well in smallbore and will be a tough competitor to beat in a year or two. She had some minor issues one day of HP in that she moved the scope settings in the wrong direction...happens to all of us eventually but she will learn from thal little mistake.
I'm sure the Mexican team are happy, Chango (Gabriel ) was in the mix and from what I have heard he took home some awards as well. They were all shooting great in smallbore, and even shared some of the finer Tequila with some of us from Team Pretty Kitty.

w30wcf, nice pic's, do you have actual size on the coyotes? Just curious, never did get out that far on the range to pick one up. Looks like someone had some good hits on the line though!!

I managed to get 2 of them after three sighter shots with 6.5x55 and 140 gr Matchking. Ran the scope to the top and backed off about 1/4 turn. First shot just a little high and right. Down a minute and had good elevation but still right. WAG shot between the two animals and got one. It worked again. Hung it up before my luck gave out. Thanks to Bob259 for his spotting. Goin' back in September and get some more.

Mary,
Body width is about 10" or 1 MOA as I recall. Height is around 3feet.
