New High Power Rifle from Conard Cup
As requested, here are pictures of the rifle that I won at the Conard Cup. I was in shock a bit when it happened and missed a few of the details of the rifle at the time. Here's a quote from Matt (Shakes) in the other thread with info.
Click on any of the small pictures here to see a much bigger version. Even in the bigger versions, it's hard to see some of the details well. I didn't get done with the "honey do" list (that strangely got a lot longer while I was in Pe Ell for the weekend) today until it was too late to get pictures in daylight, so the pictures are using the flash in the garage.
First the pictures of the whole rifle from each side. It shows the flowing lines and very nice contour of the barrel.

Next, closer pictures of the action and rings. It's all stunningly well-built and beautiful. You definitely want to click on these to see the bigger versions. They're worth the wait to download if you're on dial-up.

You may have noticed the finish on the barrel from the other pictures. Here's a close-up picture of it and just how cool it looks.

The rifle is truly amazing. These poorly done pictures don't do it justice at all and I apologize for that. Thanks again to everyone that donated parts or time in creating it. Now I just have to work on actually being able to shoot it.
It weighs in at 8lbs 12.1oz as shown in these pictures. I've never even seen a high power silhouette match, but if everything works out I'll be shooting this rifle in one on Sunday. Gary was nice enough to help me out with some reloading components and I have brass and the other necessities like ammo boxes swiftly heading my way now.Remington 700 in .260 with a Shilen barrel,a Steve Wooster stock, a set of Marvin Pearsons rings, a Jewell trigger, with work done by Keith Carins who turned a custom profile for the barrel, Marvin who threaded and chambered the barrell to the action and Steve Wooster who inleted and bedded it in one of his stocks, green marble faded to all black.

Got a couple hundred new Remington brass in today. Wow, I had forgotten how much of a pain in the ass it is to match prep new brass. Highpower is going to be a lot more work on top of being more expensive.

You are soooooo right. Your entering the game at a time when components have never been priced as high...and now so hard to find.Jason wrote:Highpower is going to be a lot more work on top of being more expensive.
You are just going to have to come to terms about this. Your wife will have to get a second job.

Jason,
Keeping up with three daughters while you go out shooting, to the track, and "work?" is enough for the wife.....don't even consider another two or three jobs to support you high power addiction.

his first time ever shooting highpower. He is now a AAA shooter in both hunter and standard, good thing you left that ram standing
Jason or you'd be a master in hunter
Jason got 5 chickens, 5 pigs, and 5 turkeys in a row as well. Congratulations on your first highpower match. Looks like weve brought another over to the dark side
Jason... GREAT shooting!!!!

Re: New High Power Rifle from Conard Cup
Thanks, but most of the credit goes to the rifle and the people that helped me yesterday at the match. Gary, Larry, and Matt all helped a lot with advice and Matt did a great job spotting. The rifle shot wonderfully and the trigger shoe that Matt brought for me made a lot of difference in trigger control. Between standard and hunter class, I did have a couple good hits and one marginal hit on rams with the 130-grain Normas that disappointed me when they didn't fall. One was probably one of my best shots of the day and that ram didn't even move.
Matt had a couple that didn't fall, too, and he was using the 142 Sierras, I think. As Matt said, though, if that good shot had dropped the ram, I would have fallen right into the deep end of the pool. I'm ok with not being in master class after the first match. Since I was unclassified, I was shooting with the master shooters in that match. It's a bit... uhh.. challenging... to compete with Eric Boos and Dennis Martinen.

Hi Jason....Since the HP page in the Chicken House is now somewhat asleep../.. dead in the water, I'd like to know if that work of art you now posess is still doing it's job. Load development, advice for new guys, and the many more Masters scores that automatically come with a rifle like this.
A lot of folks made this happen, not just me. You should have gone out and bought a Lotto tickey the very next day!
