Man that does sound like a lovely venue to shoot.
But IIRC Winnsboro is that weekend and its a LOTTTTTTTTTTT closer
But boy it would be nice to be able to take a long vacation and make a match like that to a place I have always want to see.
Hopefully they are not on the same weekend all the time

I too will be in Winnsboro the first full weekend in June but it is a guarantee the Colorado Match will be cooler than the Winnsboro match. Winnsboro is also a Ironman contest when a person competes for four days in three air rifle classes and two Smallbore classes. The last Southern Nationals in Winnsboro, LA. will take place in 2010. I have been to quite a few matches and would have not considered my Silhouette career complete if I had not shot the Southern Nationals. When compared to the Southern Nationals matches even the NRA Nationals are very small matches.

What more could you ask for? How about some pictures. These are scanned photos from the 2003 regional. If you can't make the match, you better not look at these pictures. It'll only make you feel worse. I can't go this year.......vacation time and money only go so far.......

Lord I figured it would look something like the pictures. Very nice and if Winnsboro in no longer on after 2010 than who knows hopefully they will still be shooting there in Montana. Would love to make a vacation out of a trip there.
Can anyone tell me why the Southern National ends in 2010 in Winnie?

To understand Winnsboro you have to experience Winnsboro. It is like no other match. There are no scenic views at Winnsboro. There is efficiency and attention to detail at Winnsboro. The fastest and best target setters in the world are at Winnsboro. Five meals are served at Winnsboro at no additional cost to the shooter. All the shooter has to do is shoot and wonder how he is going to transport all of his prizes home. There are so many shooters and so much going on that a person cannot take it all in. It cannot be described with words. You must experience it. I live one hour and 40 minutes from Winnsboro Gun Club and we shoot as many monthly matches as possible there.
2010 will be the last year for Winnsboro because David McClemore and Jerry Briephaut will have been organizing the Southern Nationals for 20 years in 2010. David in a previous post said that age has finally caught up with them and they are just getting too old to continue such a large event.
