139 Lapuas for .260 rem
Is anyone using 139 Lapuas for Rams? I just picked some up and would like some recommendations for loads to try.
Thanks,
Shawn

I've shot sierra 140 's over 36 grains of Varget across the course and with 35.5 gr Reloader 15 also across the course. Never rang an ram all went down with authority. Your mileage may vary, of course. I don't have a deep well of experience to draw from on High Power silhouette. However, I think there may be something to pushing 123 grain bullets at 2880 fps that seems to work.

123 grain bulllets at 2880. This may be needed for rams but keep note, If the rams you leave standing have a splash mark and not a bullet mark the bullets are breaking apart on impact. Think of it this way that you are not trying to blow the ram off the rail but trying to push him off. Back in the late 80's when I first started using the 6.5 the thought was that the long bullet would puusssh the ram off and that idea seems to still be working almost 18 years later. The 140, 142 at 2400 to 2500 will do just as good as one going at 2800. Years ago we saw this with the 308 with the 168, 180 and 190. People were pushing them to fast and blowing up on the targets.

I use 36 grns varget on a 140 grn serria mk. I have competed in three matches now and never rang a ram yet. I also practice during the week so...
I believe I am pushing the bullet right around 2500 ft/s. I use 120 grn mk for CPT using 37.5 grns varget pushing the bullet around 2650 ft/s. Both are nice light recoil with excellent knock down capability.

Range testing results are in for the .260 remington test. I used the 6.5 139gr Lapuas with 37 grains of Varget for Rams at Ridgway. This load performed very well. Shot over 20 rams low in the belly from front leg to back with 100% knock down in various wind conditions. Also shot several groups on paper out to 500 meters with good results. All groups stayed under 1/2 minute vertical displacement with some showing horizontal stringing because of the windy conditions. The widest group was still close to 1MOA. This load also shot .75 min flatter at the rams than the 142 Sierra MK with the same load. All told I was quite happy with the rifle and the load performance. I also tested the 6.5 108gr Lapuas with 35 grains of Varget. These also performed very well with one group at turkeys with four shots into 1.5 inches

I am sorry, I did not relize this was necessary because the subject of the string is for the 260 remington and that is what all my replies are related too. But, I can see where someone might post a reply with reference to another caliber making the information unsafe. In the future, I will reference all the information including brass manufacturer.
