Mary, a note to clarify some issues on your post. Greg does shoot silhouettes. I met him back in 1978 when I began shooting silhouettes and he won the CA state HP Sil Championships. I know he still shoots several Silhouette matches each year at ranges near his home because a friend of mine reloads hundreds of of .308 rounds a year for him. Look at his belt when you have a chance, has something regarding being on the top 100 HP shooters at some National HP match. He is not a bad guy, he is just in my opinion not doing a good job for us. We need somebody with more energy and enthusiasm.
The Silhouette Committee is also supposed to help promote the sport at the local, National and International level but about the only things they do is attend the NRA yearly meeting for two days to review the letters we send and some of them get to go to the Nationals matches to help Greg catch the tomatoes which can be a nasty job.
I know that some of us that could be considered hardcore because of our love and enthusiasm for the sport could help them do a better job if only given the chance. I believe that this Web site does about the best job of promoting silhouette shooting and I thank them for that.
The letters I suggested we send should be addressed to either his boss or the Chairman of the Silhouette Committee.

Tony,
Thank you for clarifying the fact that Greg shoots silhouette. Health or other reasons his decisions that are made on a regular basis at the smallbore nationals are certainly not indicative of someone trying to promote the sport, expecially not for being paid to do so. The refusal on his part to communicate via email is a great example of failure to attempt to advance the sport.
I do not feel that Greg is the only problem, the NRA has become a bureaucracy that is not listening to the bread and butter of their income and I alluded to that in my comments about the Friends of NRA (NRA Foundation). I believe many have expressed it in their comments about requests for money from the NRA. Also it appears that the silhouette committee for whatever reason is not willing to push the powers to be at the NRA into doing what is necessary to promote the sport.
Yes, this web site has been a great blessing to the sport inspite of many of the teasing remarks and general harrassment that goes on here. Many thanks to the web page managers.

Like Alston, I just could not let this go unposted by me - a never controversial individual!
1: We do NOT need another sanctioning body as there is already one that caters to the best of the best shooters. i.e. They approached me about joining so that they could take the dues and send the BEST 10 shooters in the US to a "World Cup". My response was that if they adhered to a policy like the Irish Shooting Team does (the best shooter in each class), then I would consider joining. This sport is supported by the B, A, and AA shooters. If you do not believe this, I can give you attendance figures for hte Southern Nationals.
2: Mr. Connors has been helpful to me in the past when, like Kitty says, it fits his agenda. For example, Winnsboro Gun Club applied for a NRA National Championship the year that Louisiana was having their bi-centennial. We sent in letters from the Governor, Lt Governor, District State Senator and Representative stating that the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism would advertise this event for one year in all their publications world-wide!
In my opinion, what we need is someone with marketing experience and someone that deals with the public in a retail environment to have the solutions that we need. Obviously, Mr Connor lacks both of these attributes as he comes form a military background. I am not trying to put down anyone that has bravely served our country, just trying to make a point.
I have been involved with marketing and retail sales all my life and can tell you that the main thing for the NRA to remember is that "The Customer is ALWAYS right (even when he is wrong)! YOu have to eat a little turd sometimes! I have done that many times and learned form each experience.
If we had the money and man-power that the NRA has, we could really hold a perfect match as money would be no object.
As Mary stated, where did the money go?
Hopefully, we will be able to host a NRA Air Rifle Silhouette Championship in 2008 preceding the Southern Nationals, but do not hold your breath. We do not care if we ever host another NRA National Tournament of any kind as we are tired of pleading, begging and will not apply for any more.
My final word is that we support the NRA, Friends of the NRA and all other aspects of the NRA. We WILL go back to hosting the Southern Nationals as a Registered Match as we have proven our point in hosting the largest Approved Match in history and did not send the NRA one dime! Did it hurt our attendance? Maybe, but we did have more shooters this year than ever.
