I finally bought a 10/22 for Silhouette!

Post by DavidABQ »

Yep, yesterday I picked up a used 10/22 in stainless and a synthetic stock. I made a shopping list for parts and I figure I will need to only replace the receiver, bolt, trigger group, barrel and the stock. Everything else should work just fine.

Actually I bought it for my Sister-in-law to use when she occasionally goes shooting with us. I will put in some trigger parts to reduce the trigger pull to something reasonable and that will be about it for modifications.

You should get by with only a trigger job............ Maybe a new bbl, but I didn't need one for my 10/22. I just had to find the ammo it liked and it shot 1 1/2 minutes. I found it hard to ignore that action sliding back and forth by my face. I wish I would have kept mine.

A friend and I use to hunt coyotes with a 10/22. They were deadly out to about 130 yds.

I need some lower rings than what I have on hand for her. Hopefully I will not have to spend money on a new stock for her. I need to see how well lower scope rings will out.

It seems like a fun .22 to plink away with.

Congrats on your new purchase....here goes your wallet!
Missed seeing you at Roger Parks Memorial this weekend, you need to travel some more, it is not that far from ABQ to El Paso.

You are correct Mary, about both topics.

I am hoping to keep the modifications to a minimum on the 10/22. This is strictly a loaner rifle for my Sister-in-law. She is a brand new shooter and she has shown some interest in shooting with us which is a extraordinary thing.

I should hit matches down in El Paso, the Denver area and Hobbs, NM occasionally. I hope to do that more next year.

Kidd makes a nice trigger group for a reasonable price. They have a single stage, 2 stage or just some parts to replace yours. I suggest the 2 stage, but it will probably cost slightly more than you paid for the rifle. Anyways, take a look.

p.s. the sell a really nice barrel that is tapered and makes it for hunter class too.
I buy all my guns from t-rex. He's a small arms dealer.

Old Ranger, you are evil!

She shoots the fun match with my Wife at the handgun targets so I am not worried about it fitting any class.

She is also a rank beginner so outside of a decent trigger, a stock that fits her and scope rings so she has a good cheek weld everything else (read expensive) will have to wait.

I'll recommend you check out Brimstone Gunsmithing for their trigger jobs.

$35 for their "Tier 3" job is the "good improvement for not a lot of money" option.

$70 for the "Tier 2" is really where things shine with some replacement parts and a really good trigger feel. I got this for my 10/22 and it was a huge improvement over the stock trigger. One of the best investments I made to improve it's performance.

The Tier 1 is supposed to be the "spare no expense" trigger job that should start to compete with the $200 Kidd trigger replacements.
