Jerry, how is the number of books sold useful? Some folks might shoot every silhouette game in the book. Some might shoot only one or two? Lots of other things cannot be deduced from the books.

Number of books sold would tell how many active silhouette shooters there are.
The NRA approves all matches although not timely and that would tell them how many shoots there are every year.
Jury reports are sent in for every match which tells the NRA how many people shot in each match.

What is missing????????????????????? How many people there are in each class? Who cares?

I don't get what the problem is. They know when each match is.............. They know how many people shot each match. They know if the match was BPC, SB, or HP. What they are missing is a couple dollars for each competitor when they shoot a match. Now the math is.................... 20 SB matches each year and 10 HP matches. They could hit me up for a lot more than $13 each year not to mention all the extra paperwork for the match directors. For the shooters, the system isn't broken so why fix it?

How does any of that tell them how many people shot BPCR in 2015? It doesn't. The NRA would like to know how many different individuals are active in any particular game. The current system doesn't provide that. You can't get it from the attendance at each match either.

In a heart beat, I would ditch the books if I was the NRA.

This is my LAST try.......................

First, they find all the match approvals for BPC and record the dates on a slip of paper.

Next, They find all the jury reports for those matches.

Finally, they add all the competitors up from the BPC jury reports.

Shazam......................... They now know how many people shot NRA approved BPC matches in 2015. Seems simple enough to me. I assume that they still do jury reports like we did when I was a match director.

It matters because 100 shooters shooting one match each is different than 10 shooters shooting 10 matches each, even though the match report cards could look exactly the same for both.

Not that I really want to stick my head in this hornets nest, but I'm just dumb like that. It is different 100 shooters vs 10x10. But for anything the NRA cares about it is the same. They get paid for 100 shooters either way. They have to post 100 scores either way. Whether they charge 100 people once or 10 people 10 times they still get 100 fees. As far as the NRA is concerned there are 100 fee paying entries in this class (SB,HP, BP).

Of course none of this matters one whit, they don't even bother to consult our committee (let alone the shooters) before proposing changes.
It all depends on what the end fee schedule is I guess. Our club isn't holding a state championship this year due to the demands made by our state organization. I would bet we would drop the NRA from most of our matches if it were too much of a hassle or a cost. Nothing I can do about it but keep showing up or not. I really hope they don't upset the apple cart on this one, but time will tell.

Lets take a step back for just a minute. This board is littered with threads saying the NRA is not doing anything and is filled with they need to modernize. Now that they are doing something to modernize match reporting we are all going to stop shooting silhouette with the NRA?

There are a number of shooting sports which do have electronic reporting and have for years and no one is complaining and they are growing.

Another way to look at the NRA can eliminate a task which is better and more accurately done by the match directors. Who would want Caroline's job at the NRA of recording match reports. It truly sounds like a fantastic job; 1) FIgure out who did not send in a report 2) read crappy hand writing 3) do this for 100s matches month after month after month. NOT A GOOD JOB.

These kinds of positions just like key punch operator, secretary, admins are dying positions and should.

So while I am concern about the costs (which have yet to be published), I for one right now am going to say, "Way to go NRA! It is about time!"

I just want a credit card type of card with my class, name, etc. embedded on it. That way I can, go to an approved match and they just scan it. All of the necessary information is there and I am checked in.


What I am REALLY looking forward to is being able to go to the NRA website and register and pay for National Matches. None of this crap requesting a registration packet several times before they feel like sending me one and having to send either a money order or a check. The NRA has figured out how to take your money for membership and various donations electronically but not an online registration.
