Okay, what does anyone know about this?

JB I believe we both know who will buy one and lives in Colorado =)) On the smoking, I thought it was just low oxygen for those in CO that made them like that, but you may be on to something. ;)

Bob, From what I remember about the herb superb that they taught us in high school that it made you hungry, horny, and tired. I only know what I see and it is this. Boner is always eating something, Sara McAlices leg wasn't safe in St Louis, and have you ever seen Lee O'Neil before a match? And they most generally have a Lawyer with them, is two and two four or what?

I have a theory....it seems that in the 60's and 70's the micro bus crowd headed (pardon the pun) for California. A few ran out of gas in Colo-jo-rado and simply stayed...too high to carry on. So dope in CO is just deja vu all over again. Ditto for the 783...except that deja vu got into savage's history  But JB...I can explain your observations a) Bonner has the metabolism of a vole..requiring 8 times his body weight just to stay flush b) Sara is plagued by a live in stalker and c) Lee Oneil sleeps because he's had to listen to Goodnight all day and night :D

One thought on this 783. If Remington threaded this receiver in the same thread specs as the R700 then it could be possible that all the barrel manufactures may start producing pre-threaded and chambered barrels like they do for Savage. This in turn would create a market for custom barrels that are easily installed by the user. Right now you can order a Savage barrel from Shilen and screw it on your action, head space it with your go gage, and be ready to shoot in a little under 10 minutes if you are slow at it.

Criterion already makes barrels the call "Rem-age" barrels that are setup to convert a R700 to a barrel nut system, and a lot of people have done their own work to convert R700s to barrel nuts. With Remington jumping on the barrel nut system though we may see a shift in the "standard".

I'm looking forward to seeing these R783s in the stores and getting the chance to look them over to see if Remington is sticking to their cheap (aka ROUGH) machining and finishing. Also looking forward to see what changes were made in the trigger and how it is attached.

Trent ...you are right on about replacement barrels...that's the good news. But I bet there's no good after market trigger.

It'll be interesting to see who dissects a 783 first. It may be complete garbage, but if Remington "borrowed" some of the other good ideas out there, grafted them onto a 700 action and then manages decent build quality this could be a very good thing. On the other hand, their Mayfield plant is the same place that gave us the 504. :|

Full review on the Remington 783. I sure wish they'd add the 7-08 and .260 to their list of chambers. Right now they just list .308, 7 Rem Mag, .270 and .30-06

Finally laid an eyeball on one today at Sportsmans warehouse, chambered for an 06 and looked like a Savage Tikka cross and was 369.99 with no bases or rings or scope on it. Not a badfeeling rifle IMHO.
