Stillers predator action
I am thinking of building a silhouette rifle using a stillers predator action.
Has anyone used one of these for a build? If so what was your opinion
of the action? Thanks!

The Stiller's Predator actions are presently being used by the "Kuess" brother and sister, last year and this year National Champions, in 6.5x47 caliber, they are also being used by several other prominent shooters, mostly in the single shot model. They are a copy of a Rem. 700 action but with a lot more tighter tolerances. Great actions !!!!

If you are intending to put together a magazine gun, Stiller offers a somewhat longer than 2.800" magazine cutout (and magazine box) which can be useful with some cartridges and a small firing pin hole in the bolt face, which is especially useful if you intend to shoot anything with a small rifle primer. As I understand it, Stiller is also offering an AR/Savage style barrel nut that can be used to switch barrels very easily in case you want to shoot something on the lighter side, but want the option to swap to a big heavy 7mm bullet for ranges known to have tough rams.

Very nice action indeed. Will make a fine silhouette rifle.

Re: Stillers predator action
I just bought 1 also in single action. have not screwed on a pipe yet but will let you know how it turns out. I also bought 1 from a company in Pennsylvania called 10X. They have them in stock, the price is less and they appear to be just as well made. they just don't have any single shots. both of mine are not for silhouette but the long range 1000 yard matches.

Check out Defiance Actions. I've got two of their Rebel actions, a rem 700 clone. Very tight tolerances. Both of mine are single shot. The main guy who started Nesika Actions left and started his own company. Made in Montana.

Re: Stillers predator action
I thought about going the full bore custom action route. Glad I just got a custom stock, kreiger barrel and regular 700 action now. There are some pretty custom actions out there but I just don't see that helping me much over what I ended up with. Maybe someday it will be a fun thing to do but the rifle Evelio built me shoots better than me.
Perhaps getting into the custom CUSTOM guns is something you do after a longer time in the game than I have been involved and one day I will spring for a super duper rig. Lord knows I wanted to originally though as it was so maybe I am doomed to the eventual purchase of one myself. Seems to be the case on most of my other acquisitions
Be sure to show us all what you end up with

Re: Stillers predator action
Dee,
I doubt that there is an accuracy 'smith out there who would tell you that they can not make a Rem 700 shoot very well indeed. (If you encounter one, "run away!" to quote Monte Python.)
Instead, the question is one of retained value. A custom action should have every thing correct out-of-the-box. An accurized Rem 700 may cost most of what a custom action costs, but generally does not retain as much of its value at resale time. (It does help if the action work was performed by a known 'smith of good reputation though.)
In the end it does become a matter of personal preference and what features a particular action may have that suit you. If there were anything wrong with the basic design of the Rem 700 you would not see the many "clones" which are available.
Cheers,
Rick
