It is far better to start with a winner than to build one - trust me. If you're buying a new rifle for Silhouette, get a CZ, Kimber or Anschutz depending on your budget. Sure they'll all need some tuning to fit you, but anything else will take serious remediation that is a distraction from practice. Sorry if I'm sounding hard core but this is a fresh wound for me.

I am with Blaubear on this one.
My wife always insisted on getting the best one and stick with it. She has only one rifle a 1712.
Me on the other hand started with a kimber of oregon, Kimber HS, and I am now shooting a 1712.
You will eventually end up with an expensive gun if you want to be competitive. Wheter you buy a less expensiver one and modify it or buy an expensive stock rifle, the cost will be about the same.... But whatever makes you enjoy the sport, go ahead and do it.
Just remember the more modifications you add to a rifle, the less excuse you will have when you miss,
