Remington 541 T - Opinions

Post by steveyacht »

I have come across a Remington 541 T with a tapered barrel. Not having any information readily abvailable since they are not being made any longer, I would greatly appreciate any and all information, comments and opinions that any one has about these rifles. Particularly when compared to CZ 452's, being as CZ's are readily available at this time.

Thanks in Advance.

A 541-T makes a good silhouette rifle that, on balance, is comparable to CZ 452. For my taste, the 541 has better balance a much better trigger, is very tunable (Brian Voelker has a great reputation, but I lack personal experience with his work) and should hold its value very well. Great rifles. If Remington had continued building them, and could have kept their costs in line, CZ would be much less popular, but even a quick look at the bolt and receiver on a 541 will tell you why it was impossible for Remington to control their costs! CNC machines may be unable to produce those locking lugs and, as a friend that claims inside knowledge put it, the machine "tools" that produced the 541 all retired.

CZ has a much better magazine well and uses much better magazines that are easily available in metal or sturdy plastic. Their barrels, at least in the 452 line, are excellent and straight out of the box the CZ's will probably have an edge in accuracy.

Personally, I would still opt for a 541 just because of the feel. Just plan on tracking down some five round magazines for it, and paying more than you'd like for them.

Much has been written about the 541's super fast lock time, my watch only goes down to seconds so I can't say for sure but it seems pretty fast!!! =))
