Posture

Post by BlauBear »

Near the end of last season, I discovered that shot placement improved (>POA=POI) with my back curved in and gut hanging out. Not very dignified, but very effective. Then a recent thread showed an air rifle shooter in the same posture: Of course, he was younger, thinner and more flexible so it stood out more, but can anyone explain this? Does it throw the hips in line with center of gravity better? Is this a correct posture?

The Idea is to have all your weight evenly balanced over your feet, so you don't rock or wobble backwards and forward. I going to do a little assuming here. You are standing at 90 degrees to the firing line. If your gut weights 10 lb, your gun 8lb you have to lean back and stick your gut out enough to balance out all that mass evenly. The Gun weight plus your head and shoulders are balanced by your gut. But also the gun is right over your feet, so wobbles less. You should also be leaning back away from the animals to bring the gun center over your feet in the other direction. Hope this all makes sense.

Thanks! Just a little experimentation proved your points. Wish I had thought to ask this question earlier in the off season, but there's still time to make some corrections and find a natural position with better balance and posture.

A little twist in the back also stiffenes up the stance.

Wow!! thanks for the tip about the slight twisting of the body while in the leaning back position. Doing it does shrink my wobble. I to am also still experimenting with stance. I'm dry firing everyday with a 12x scope. Hopefully I will be able to order a T-24 from chicken in the next couple of weeks and start doing some live fire practice.

Don't wait too long on that T24 - Chicken just posted that Weaver has dropped them and he's running out.
