i just weighed my savage MKII bull barrel 20", wood laminate stock, simmons target scope (i'm cheap). has a DIP base on it, a cheekpiece, and an empty mag. i just weighed it yesterday at the FSC match, it came in at 8lbs 10oz., just over 8.5lbs

i know that t-36 is heavier than my scope,

i know it's not a CZ, but gives you some idea of weight.

IMO, if i wanted to stay hunting class without controversy, i'd stay clear of a heavy / bull / varmint barrel to avoid being moved to standard. we have a pretty "loose" bunch of shooters at FSC, but i think even they / we would raise an eyebrow to the CZ varmint in hunting class. it's seemingly one of those grey areas that can be open to interpretation.

according to the websites: savage mkii BV 6.5 lbs, simmons master series 6-24 13 oz. this should equal 7lbs 5oz. add in rings, base, and cheekpiece, it may actually come to the 8lbs 10oz it weighed in at.

according to the websites: CZ varmint 6.8 lbs, T-36 scope 17 oz. this should equal about 7lbs. 13 oz. alone. add in rings (depending on what kind) it may be at the 8.5lbish mark

totally a issue of what is considered a varmint barrel, a ns522 has a heavier barrel than a varmint bareled cz,and is readily accepted as a both class rifle. i am sure if you checked size of taper on many pharstocked hart/ douglas- barreld 1712's they also would be of heavier taper. the varmint is a varmint 'rifle" nowhere does it say the varmint barrel is a varmint contour. just heavier.

a cooper varminter doesnot have a heavy barrel, ya know.

buy what you want. my gun will pass tech anywhere, any time. the cz sight has the silo listed as a slio, dont make it a "proper silo" anymore than the style, the cech's are not the best at describing what stuff really is.

the NRA is not very good at identifying what makes some thing what it is either.

so i say if you are chaning the configuration of a cz 452 varmint AT ALL the varmint configureation has been chnged and if. if is weighs(walks) looks(quacks) like a hunter(duck) than it is a hunter(duck)

if i write varminter on my CZ american it is not a varmint barrel either.

I have seen rifles called 'varmiters' by the manufacturer with light barrels and with heavy barrels...guess it is a matter of whether you want to tote the weight or not.
My remark on the 452 vs 455 action is based on actually handling and shooting two different 455's (both purchased new last month)and countless 452's in various configurations. Weight and balance on the 455 seemed fine,
just didn't care for the feel of the action when opening/closing the bolt or the trigger.
gcsniper, I know of one person here locally in Florida trying to get rid of a 452 Lux only becasue his son has decided he wants to shoot a 45/70 instead...ah the ignorance of youth, unless he is smart enough to load it down.

BH...not as nasty a round as a 6.5/284 if it is loaded right! Sold the Marlin 45/70 but still have one in #1 if you want to shoot it.
