I'd be out of line asking a question ? Researched for awhile w/no results. What is the most common(best) steel used in the construction of Silo targets ?

Looks like I'll have to make my own to start out learning on. Lucky for me a real good friend has a waterjet machine that can easily wip out numerous ones for me with the scans I did find for scale size, just need to know what metal to go purchase. Also is there a certain weight they must be + or - ??

Actually for smallbore just plain A-36 1/4" steel will be just fine, they will last a lot longer than the cast iron now being used by most of the clubs, make sure you use a good wire welding machine, and run it hot when you weld the bases, that's where you are going to have the biggest problem.
For High Power you have to use A- 514 or T-1 plate, 1/2'' for chickens and pigs and 3/8" for turkeys and rams, and use a low hydrogen rod to do the welding.

The cast iron targets have been developed to the point of excellent durability with strengthning at the chicken's leg and behind the ram's horns. They're quite affordable from RaysTargets.
Real targets are fun for training, especially if you have swingers so you don't have to reset. (Those are available, too.) But training is about going to work, not having fun. Accordingly, you'll learn faster by shooting at paper targets. It's a big help to see exactly where those bullets are going. Gets you to a quicker undersanding of WHY they go where they do.

I would make the SB chickens out of 1/2" A-36
