Fondled a 1710 yesterday.
I'm "almost" in love. Stopped by the local gun shop, and they had a beautiful, used Anschutz 1710 yesterday afternoon. I need to go back and check the specific model# and build date. It's a model with a tapered barrell and open sights. $900 is the asking price.
Is there any difference between the 1710 action and the 1712? If not, this rifle would probably make a good starting point for a silhouette rig, or even to be used as is.
If it had been a 1712, I think it would be in my safe right now. Just thought I'd share.

1712 anschutz
My 1712 came with a single stage and I bought a $75 two stage for it. There is more difference than that but I am not sure just what they are. The 1710 is a hunting rifle and the 1712 was built for target shooting in the hunter class.

Howdy all,
The original 1712's were FWT models,
shorter 22" barrel, no sights and McMillan f/g stock.
Single stage trigger.
They were offered as a sporter silhouette rifle to make weight in 'hunter' or 'light rifle' competition.
(The International IMSSU weight limit is 7lb 11ozs all up)
Later also offered here with Walnut Monte Carlo stock, and two stage trigger.
Of late barreled actions with two stage triggers have also been offered without sights.
I assume it would be the same barrel, otherwise it's not a 1712 ?
cheers,

I don't think you can lose on the deal, you can always resell it for 900. The action is a $900 item. I prefer the monte carlo wood 1710 stock over the McMillian 1712 stock. I would suggest buying it and trying a few stocks to see what its best for you. I personally need a few weeks to determine if I like a certain set up. Good luck.

Well,
I'm lucky, I've got both stocks, two rifles, and a spare Walnut Monte Carlo.
I used to own three 1700 series;
A 1710HB, in classic 'Meistergrade' Walnut
a 1742 with Walnut Monte Carlo
and the 1712FWT
I bought an extra Monte Carlo for the HB, and opened the channel out,
and kept the stock when I sold the HB. (son no longer shooting)
The 1712FWT weighs in at 7lb 10ozs in the McMillan.
If I want a bit more weight, I slot it into the Walnut,
but I generally just shoot it as it is in both 'Heavy' and 'Light'.
Those Mark Pharr stocks and Evilio's 'blings' look good.
cheers,
Sean in 'Godzone'

Monte Carlo vs straight
The rifle I was looking at did not have the MonteCarlo stock, it had the straight comb stock (varmint style?). I don't know what they call that stock design.
How much can one reasonably expect to pay for an Anschutz Monte Carlo stock versus buying a synthetic one from McMillan, Pharr, Nesika, etc?

Re: Monte Carlo vs straight
Generally the McMillians or walnut go for about $300 or less with the trigger guard and butt plate. Of course this is a guess, but that is what I saw in the past. A new 1810 MSR walnut stock was $560 in Champions choice catalog. For refernce, McMillian has some specials http://mcmfamily.com/mcmillan/specials/. Someone at your club might have a spare to try. Rimfire central is also a good place to swap.Jetmugg wrote:The rifle I was looking at did not have the MonteCarlo stock, it had the straight comb stock (varmint style?).
