38-55 Loads
Have a friend shooting a 38-55 and cast bullets, but it let him down in some of the side shoots. Anyone have any good loads he can try to improve his reliability in knocking them down.

G'Day Bob
10grns of Universal with a 250-265 cast bullet seems to work real well.

Thanks Juddy, are you using gas checked bullets?

I use a hunter supply bullet sized at 379 and a load of Unique. Have your bud check a lyman manual or get some data or from the Laser Cast bullet site. My 260 grain slug is only doing about 1100 fps, but will take down every ram it touches.

I'm using the LEE 379 mold with straight Wheel Weights. It is a bevel base bullet but this load seems to work with most bullets in that weight range. I recently got (finally) a Lyman mold (37583) that used to be used as a gallery bullet in 38/55's, so I'm keen to give it a go with some Trailboss for chickens and pigs.

Thanks Juddy... I'll pass it on to him. He's about ready to give up on the 38-55 and may get his 343 out

Re: 38-55 Loads
Bob,
I was shooting a borrowed 38-55 loaded wtih 8g if Trailboss on a 245g flat nose, up to turkeys, worked very well and no recoil. Ram load was 18.1g on a 265g gas checked, felt a little recoil but not bad and it took the babies down enough
to win some of my money back from the OZ crew!!! Shot some of Timfine 32-20 at rams as well, nice loads there.
