air gun

Post by Jerry G »

lewis and Clark had an air rifle along on their trip and used it quit a bit. I guess something like that could do lots of target damage to the little air rifle targets.

That is more along the line of a "off the shelf" version...1600 fps... impressive...

As far as air rifles go, they make the PCP's (scuba tank charged) up to (possibly beyond) 50 caliber. There has been at least one documentated case where a guy got an air rifle qualified as a ml'er and hunted deer with it. He took a doe at like 70 yards or so...

RWS 707 has plenty of 9MM air rifles out there... entergy well past what we think it terms of air rifle performance....

George,

The airgun is in fact off-the-shelf. The 1600fps comes from the Performance Ballistic Alloy pellet. Read about it here: http://www.gamousa.com/Catalog.aspx?Product=79

btw, am I the only one bothered by the moral implications of shooting a pig with a .17 caliber pellet just to make an ammo commercial? At 30 yards this thing only delivers 11.2 foot pounds of energy. No way that's enough for a humane kill on an animal of that size.
