357mag or 32.20 which is more accurate
HI folks,
Just a quick question, between the 357 mag and 32.20, which would be inherently the most accurate for pistol cartridge silhouette. In other words if you had one of each of these calibres which would be your go to one and why?
cheers

I'm not sure which is more accurate but with everyone talking about how difficult it is to find componants for the 32-20 I'd go with the 357. I haven't had any problems finding ammo or componants for my 357 and when I was using factory ammo Magtech was shooting really good for the price $22.95/50. I used 125 gr/38spl for chickens and pigs and 158gr/357 for turkeys and rams.

Re: 357mag or 32.20 which is more accurate
I have both. My 357 CB is more accurate than my 32-20 CL. It might be the gun, the longer barrel or the heavier octagon barrrel on the .357. I am shooting cheap reloads with lead SWC bullets for the .357 so it isn't the ammo. Factory 32-20 ammo is very expensive.

Re: 357mag or 32.20 which is more accurate
I just recently started shooting an 1894 in 357mag and from the limited testing I've done I'd say it's pretty much "spot on" in accuracy with the 32-20/32Mag, at least with the 1000-1100fps loads I shoot in Pistol Cartridge.
I shot a 1894 in 32-20 for a while, but sold it when I had difficulty finding brass and bought a 1894 in 32 H&R Mag instead. Brass is much more available for the 32Mag and it is nearly identical ballistically. Recoil is "non-existent", at least with the 1100FPS and slower loads. Accuracy is about the same out of both, about 2-1/2 to 3" at 100yards. All things being equal, I'd still give the edge to the to the 357 or 32Mag as the 32-20 case was a royal PITB to resize, at least when compared to the straight wall 357 or 32Mag case.

Re: 357mag or 32.20 which is more accurate
We used to shoot the .32-20 in HP it's a great cartridge. I had a couple of TC's in it. But, our objective was as little recoil as possible and when shooting 4 pound contender with a scope only a couple inches away from your face, every little bit made a big differnce. But, in a rifle when recoil isn't really much of an issue there isn't really any reason to go with a .32-20. Especially in light of as previously mentioned problems with finding components, and much easier reloading of the .357.

Now, now my little green warty friend
no need to get your earmuffs into a knot. All I am saying is that due to your pre historic birthdate you must be getting tired and it is alright if you want to lay down occasionally
to soak up the sun, dry old that old leathery skin and get back into the swing of it.
I believe that 26th June is Wetsbury day
then let the dogs of war
loose

Hi all
Toad it will be your job to make sure Deadeye Dave has a suitable hand bag (like we all have) since he going to shoot a 32-20 when I send him some cases.
Regards

I sure would like to know where to buy that pink rangebag.... I'm obviously in violation of the rule when I shoot my wimpy 32mag.... I can only hope to have my 357's "big boy load" shooting well for the CLA Rams by Raton. Obviously I'll still need a pink bag (maybe with purple pinstriping) for it though.

Re: 357mag or 32.20 which is more accurate
deadeye, only a group of people who like shooting inaccurate, small, non manly type guns would use a 32/20. A certain group of hillbillys from down your way spring to mind.
The Toad is that old and frail he sold his manly 357 and down sized to a 32/20. I suspect this was around the same time as he started wearing skirts and high heels.

Does your new 45/70 have stainless steel, laminated wood and a rubber buttplate, because that just would go so well with someone who shoots a 32/20
