2x4 Standard Rifle at Winnie.. Anyone got pics?
Just wondering if anyone managed to get some pictures of the rifle that was basically an action set into a 2x4 with the nails in the end of it? I didn't get a pic of it and of course no one believes me when I tell them. Post a pic if you have it please.
Thanks,
Dee

Dee, you make that rifle sound better than it really is. That guy was shooting next to us when we were shooting on bank 6 Saturday morning and I talked to him about it. He said that he put it together while at one of the matches there some years back and pulls it out for kicks. He also said that it shoots quite well, but is not too nice to hold. it looks like a piece of very old fence post that was ripped off the fence for its new purpose. There were about 4 nails in the end of the forearm bent over pointing forward like mini bayonets. Instead of a main action screw it had a hose clamp securing the action to the stock along with some bailing wire a bit further down the barrel. The guy was hitting animals with it though.

That is Charlie McClure's rifle. He produced it to proved that it is NOT about the equipment! Besides, Charlie and Jerry Boydstun have been coming to Winnsboro for about 19 years only for the door prizes!

The 2x4 in action. IIRC it delivered solid AA scores in both Saturday's matches this time around...including one 5-in-a-row.
Yup! This really is an 'equipment game'! LOL
BTW, I don't know whether that's the same scope but the first time I saw the 2x4, it mounted an old 10x Weaver -- with a cracked objective lens!

Mossberg action/barrel, welded the action to the barrel, 16x Weaver (one lens is chipped), hose clamps, duct tape, "bailin" wire. Put together in 1996 at Winnsboro, first 5 shots in the '96 match earned a 5 in-a-row ram pin while shooting a 27 or 28... Thought the 20th annual match was a good one to shoot it again, shot a pair of 22's or 23's. The rifle will shoot great groups, but it is difficult to hold and follow through with the shots. $50.00 for the scope, $7.00 for the action…. 2x4 picked from the scrap pile.

Thanks for the pic and detailed build information, now I have proof of the rifles existence. I will be putting my order in with Pharr to get one made up, is that a match chamber?
That is some kinda good shooting with literally a stick though I must say!
Do you use a 4x4 for High Power by chance? ;)
I think this is truly a Frankenrifle if there ever was one.

Does it actually make weight? Or was everyone afraid to ask?

33 years of silhouette for me Charlie...and that kind of reminds me of my first silhouett rifle..only it has a scope and mine had iron sights! Lets go for the next 30 plus of keeping them guessing what bling we will show up with next!

I remember watching this get made! I wasn't shooting yet...and thought they must be crazy!!! Of course I was correct!
TXC just proves it every time I see him.
Next year you need to take that to the International Open
