need some help.....

Post by shakes »

I'm wanting to know if anybody among us with machining skills could possibly turn down the bolt knob on a rem 700 and thread it so I could add a tacticle style bolt knob. i know its difficult to mount the bolt to be able to turn it down and add threads, just tossing it out there to see if it could be done. :-??
Thanks and a Merry Christmas to all.

The most often used approach to what you want to do is taking the bolt handle off and replacing it with one of the aftermarket ones from midway or brownell's, Basspro here in Denver can do it as well as most full service gunsmithing operations.

Could you grind it to a cylindrical contour then run a threading die of appropriate dimensions onto the mating surface of the handle?

Shakes
Normally I grind the ball round, and then thread it to what ever size you specify. I have done several Rem. 700 and Anchutz.

Easy shakes - why sit at the computer when you can go to range or a machine shop?

Like I said, "when you can go to the range..." On the other hand, if he can go to the range when the rest of can't, he will get a ration of <ahem> stuff.
